Microsoft has presented a really beautiful laptop with some interesting hardware novelties.

Microsoft has presented the new Surface Laptop and perhaps this is a laptop you have always been waiting for. While the Surface Book seems to be too top-heavy and chunky, the Surface Laptop weighs less than three pounds. The highly professional device can boast of some interesting hardware novelties.

Microsoft hasn’t done anything revolutionary to change the idea of a laptop. But it has done its best to make a primary focus on the things that really matter. There are great keyboard and trackpad, crisp display, and flawless design.

You will like the new Surface Laptop just as you will find out that it can be easily opened with a single hand. Such a little trifle can really be irritating – you try to open a device to work and it jumps around on the table.

Once you start typing, you immediately feel the alcantara fabric that surrounds the keys and trackpad. This fabric that feels like glowing leather is not typical for laptops. It is hard to say whether liquid and food spillages will cause problems but the laptop seems to be coated in a way that it’s probably not an issue.

The Surface Laptop has Intel’s latest Core i5 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 128GB SSD. The 13.5-inch PixelSense display runs at a 2256 x 1504 resolution and supports the Surface Pen and touch. The Surface Laptop resembles a Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book display due to a 3:2 aspect ratio. The display looks like it’s glued directly to the keyboard without a hinge, thanks to a repositioning of the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth antennas.

It is interesting that this repositioning can be the only unattractive feature of the Surface Laptop design. There are a Surface connector for power and connections to docks on the right-hand side, and a regular USB port, a mini DisplayPort, and a headphone jack on the left side. Unfortunately, USB-C lacks there although the majority of professional laptops are equipped with at least one USB-C port.

The battery life of the Surface Laptop will last for 14.5 hours. You will be able to put the device to sleep and resume it days later without any loss of battery. The Surface Laptop is powered by Windows 10 S.

The base model of the Surface Laptop will be available for $999 starting June 15th. Once Google lists it in the Windows Store, you will be able to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro and unlock every desktop app for $49. It doesn’t sound like a good idea to pay additional money for the functionality. Fortunately, potential Surface Laptop owners will be allowed to avoid the fee until the end of the year.
