Facebook is a network that needs no introductions. It doesn’t only connect people from across the world – in recent years more people have started using Facebook to connect in another way as well: buying and selling with each other. Initially, the activity concentrated in Facebook Groups. As for now, more than 450 million people visit buy and sell groups each month.
Facebook team has noticed and appreciated the tendency and today came up with an exciting announcement. In the effort to provide the most convenient environment for people to communicate and spend time, Facebook has created Marketplace, where people can discover, buy and sell items with others. With Marketplace, users will be able to easily find new things or find a new home for the things they have got tired of.
The operating principle of Marketplace is very simple and resembles habitual markets we all have got used to. People publish photos of items they want to sell. You can either browse what’s available in a variety of categories such as Household, Electronics and Apparel, or filter the search by location, category or price. To adjust your permanent region, you can use the built-in location tool.
If you stumble upon something interesting, you can tap on the image to see more details from the seller, including a product description, the name and profile photo of the seller, and their general location. You can also save the item to find it later.
“Decided that you want it? Send the seller a direct message from Marketplace to tell them you’re interested and make an offer. From that point on, you and the seller can work out the details in any way you choose. Facebook does not facilitate the payment or delivery of items in Marketplace,” says the Facebook team.
The process of listing an item for sale is also simple. It includes only four steps: taking a photo of an item, entering the description, price and category, confirming your location and posting. Just several minutes and people in your region can see the item and message you if they want details or want to buy it. Facebook remains the option to post an item at Marketplace and a specific buy and sell group at the same time.
There is the Your Items section where you can keep track of all of your current/past transactions, saved items and messages with people in Marketplace.
Facebook promises to roll out the Marketplace to everyone over 18 years old in the US, UK, Australia, and New Zealand on the Facebook app for iPhone and Android within next several days. The Facebook team intends to add more countries and make Marketplace available on the desktop version of Facebook in the coming months.
