Huawei Announces P9 and P9 Plus with Dual Leica-Certified Cameras

The two cameras in Huawei P9 and P9 Plus allow high quality photos without compromising on the handset’s sleek and compact style.

Huawei and Leica have combined to create a stunning dual-lens camera in a smartphone. And now a leading global information and communications technology solutions provider presents Huawei P9 and Huawei P9 Plus with a pair of Leica-certified cameras.

One of the cameras in new smartphone is traditional 12-megapixel while the other one is a monochrome 12-megapixel module. It doesn’t have the RGB light filtering that its color sibling requires, and so is able to soak up more photons.

The two sensors add each other and together improve contrast in photos by 50 percent and triple the light information taken in by the phone. The 8 megapixel front-facing camera enables superior selfies even in low light.

Vlad Savov from the Verge had an opportunity to test the smartphone before its announcement in London and admits that it left him encouraged: “This phone is slim, well built, performs well, and the dual-camera system isn’t trying to push any unnecessary gimmicks.”

Huawei P9 has an aluminum unibody case, a 3,000mAh battery, a USB-C port, and an octa-core Kirin 955 processor of Huawei’s own making. The phone’s design is cohesive, elegant, and yes, even premium.

Thus, Huawei P9 can boast of two obvious advantages, two camera modules and sizable battery. In Europe, the smartphone will be suitable for a microSD card, which in Asian market will be swapped for a second SIM slot.

This is not the only difference between Europe and China. European market won’t enjoy the rose gold P9 as well as the 64GB version of the handset. Customers in Europe will get access only to limited 32GB of built-in storage.

“The Huawei P9 is created by some of the world’s top industrial designers to achieve a visually stunning design with diamond-cut edges, rounded out by beautiful curvatures. The Huawei P9 is sculpted using aerospace-class unibody aluminum and a superior-grade 2.5D glass. Discover a more vivid world that’s even closer to natural colours on a stunning 5.2″ FHD display with 96% colour saturation and high contrast”, says the official website.

A 5.5-inch Huawei P9 Plus has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage by standard while a 128GB version will be available in China. The advanced model has larger battery of 3,400mAh and switches the display technology to Super AMOLED from the regular P9’s IPS. Huawei P9 Plus will also enjoy an IR blaster and a pressure-sensitive screen called Press Touch technology (the similar technology was used in limited edition versions of Huawei Mate S).

According to Huawei, P9 will be appear both in Europe and Asia by the end of this month while P9 Plus will become available for purchase only in May. The company didn’t provide any information concerning the launch of the P9 in the United States although allegedly it has plans to launch a flagship smartphone in the US this year.
