MTV WMAs 2015: Taylor Swift Wins Big, but Kanye West and Miley Cyrus Steal the Show

Though the country singer was a big winner of the show, everyone’s attention was drawn to Kanye West last night.

Taylor Swift may have taken numerous MTV awards on Sunday but it was her reunion with Kanye West that stole the show, as the rapper announced ints plans to run for the U.S. presidency in 2020. Photo:

Popular singer Taylor Swift won the main award of MTV WMA for her video for her single “Bad Blood.”

“I know there’s been a lot of discussion about what this video means but I’m just happy that in 2015 we live in a world where boys can play princesses and girls can play soldiers,” the 25-year-old star said.

Despite Swift’s succes it was Kanye West who left a lasting impression at this year’s show.

The rapper, who a few years ago stormed the stage and snatched the microphone from Swift during her acceptance speech, received the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award on Sunday by Swift, in a VMA moment that came full circle.

“Everyone in the world knew about our infamous encounter at the VMAs, but something you may not know is Kanye West’s album ‘College Dropout’ is the very first album I bought on iTunes,” Swift said. “I have been a fan of his, since I can remember, because Kanye defines what is to be a creative force in music, fashion and, well, life.”

She went on, adding in a parody of infamous West’s 2009 speech: “to all the other winners tonight, I’m really happy for you and Imma let you finish, but Kanye West has one of the greatest careers of all time.”

West hugged Taylor after he took the stage to accept a gold version of Jeremy Scott’s redesigned Video Music Award trophy. “First of all, thank you, Taylor, for being so gracious in giving me this award this evening,” he said. “And I often think back to the first day I met you, also.”

When delivering his acceptance speech the rapper touched on subjects such as fatherhood, getting booed at stadiums, defending artists but later he announced something that put the public into shock.

“I have decided in 2020 to run for President,” West announced.

MTV’s annual VMA awards Moonman statuettes to the year’s top achievements in music videos, but this show is mostly known for scandalous and unexpected moments.

Sunday’s night hasn’t become exception as a scantily clad Miley Cyrus, 22, made her way through her hosting duties, flashed her bare breast accidentally and performed a new song about smoking marijuana.

The singer, who twerked up a firestorm of controversy after her dance with Robin Thicke during VMAs 2013 later admitted: “had a host for the last two years: a tradition they’ll probably return to immediately following tonight’s show. Now, I have literally done everything on the VMAs stage, and none of it showed that I was qualified to host, but here we are.”

The list of winners of this year’s show included New Jersey rapper Fetty Wap who was named artist to watch, Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson’s summer hit “Uptown Funk!” who won best male video and Nicki Minaj who earned best hip hop video for her “Anaconda” song.
