Prince William and Kate Just Mingled with Beyoncé and Jay Z [Video]

Prince William and Kate joined celebrity couple at a basketball game during visit to New York.

Kate Middleton and Prince William met Beyoncé and Jay Z during their trip to New York.

It barely lasted a New York minute, the Royal couple brought 18,000 people to their feet when they met pop royalty Jay-Z and his wife at a basketball game in Brooklyn.

“The home crowd at the Barclays Centre reserved their biggest cheer of the night for the entrance of the Duke and Duchess part way through the third quarter of the Brooklyn Nets NBA match against the Cleveland Cavaliers,” The Telegraph writes. “Despite feverish anticipation of the the royal couple sitting next to “Bey and Jay”, the Duke and Duchess took up front row seats directly opposite New York’s own version of royalty.”

The Duke of Cambridge, wearing a blue and red checked shirt and black means, and the Duchess, wearing a Tory Burch coat with jeans and heels, settled in to watch Cleveland and their star player Lebron James assert their authority on the match.

There was an awkward moment for the Royal pair during a break in play, when they were announced to the crowd of fans who attended the game and appeared on giant screens above the court, giving an awkward wave to the TV camera pointed at their faces.

After that, at the end of the third quarter, Beyonce and her husband took the initiative, making their way across the court to meet the royal couple to wild cheers from the crowd.

After the match, the Duke and Duchess were admitted to the court of Lebron when they were invited to meet basketball’s biggest superstar.

Kate and William descended to a basement hospitality suite, to meet the Cavaliers’ star player, who had brought them a gift-wrapped box of cup cakes from his home town, Akron, Ohio.

It had been a day of firsts for the royal couple and they declared themselves impressed by their first NBA game.

“It was good, really good. Our first time,” the Prince told the 6ft 8in 29-year-old star after a day of contrasts. “I went to the White House for the first time. It was quite daunting.”

James asked William what size shoes he wore. “Half the size of yours,” he replied, pointing at his huge feet.

The basketball star also presented the Royal couple with Cavaliers jerseys, a maroon one for Prince George that said “George 1” on it and the other, a yellow one that said “Cambridge 7.

James posed for pictures withe couple, putting his arm around the Duchess’s shoulder.

Earlier, James had backed protests over deaths in custody, wearing an “I Can’t Breathe” T shirt during the warm up.

There was no mention of the controversy when he met the couple.
