Apple Watch, the much-anticipated smartwatch made by the Californian tech giant, was announced on Sept 9. It will be available in three variants: Watch, Watch Sport and Watch Edition. The Watch Edition is the premium version which is,. according to DaringFireBall‘s motable analyst John Gruber, would be priced as much as $5,000.

The new Apple’s premium class device has a stainless steel body while the Apple Watch Sport is designed with anodized aluminum exterior. The premium Apple Watch Edition has been marvelously created with 18-karat gold.

The Apple Watch Sport will be available at a reasonable price of $349, sources familiar with the matter insist. Apple Watch, with the stainless steel body, is predicted to go on sale with a retail price of $999. Meanwhile, since the premium Watch Edition features pure gold, Gruber feels that at the very least, the wearable will be priced at $1,999 when it retails in the coming year.

“Without a subsidy model similar to the smartwatch industry to mask the cost of hardware  the iPhone 6 Plus that can reach $950 for the 128 GB model before subsidies are applied), the price of the high-end luxury Apple Watches are going to come with a lot of sticker shock for people more used to thinking $199 for the new iPhone,” Forbes writes.

“Which is great for Apple. Breaking out of the tech silo and the tiered pricing forced into the contract model, will give them far more scope to position the Apple Watch as a standalone brand with a huge level of aspiration and status. Much like Rolex, Tim Cook will be hoping the Apple Watch can carry a significant level of cachet. It certainly comes with a similar margin on the product,” the publication adds.

All three Apple’s smartwatches feature Apple S1 processor and run on iOS-based Watch OS. They also have a notable Retina Display that measures 1.5 x 1.7 inches. The screens of Apple Watch and Apple Watch Edition feature sapphire crystal, whereas the Apple Watch Sport features strengthened Ion-X glass.

The Cupertino based company unveiled its plans to launch 18 models of Apple Watch, 10 models of Apple Watch Sport and 6 models of Apple Watch Edition. The digital crown, which allows you to access all the features and notifications, is the major feature that is available in all the versions of Apple Watch.

“As far as connectivity is concerned, all the editions of Apple’s wearable are equipped with NFC, Bluetooth v4.0, Wi-Fi and MagSafe inductive charging. Only owners of iPhone 5,iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be able to use their handsets to establish connection with the Apple Watch smartwatches,” reports International Business Times.

Apple has announced the price tag and release date of Apple Watch. During the Apple event, the company also did not divulge specific details about the battery life of the smartwatch. Apple Watch competes with recently announced smartwatches like Motorola Moto 360, LG G Watch R, Samsung Gear S, Asus ZenWatch and Sony SmartWatch 3.
