In sunny Brazil,Â the âMiss Bumbumâ contestÂ is held every year toÂ find the best derriere. This year’s 27 contestants, who represent the countryâs different states, were announced last week.
âMiss Bumbum 2014â contest was launced in SĂŁo Paulo on August 11. Until November Brazilians have an opportunity toÂ vote onlineÂ and selectÂ the 15 best missesÂ for the finale.
“[Brazilians] definitely have a thing with butts,” said Brazilian Graciela Murano,writer and editor for Oddee, noting that “bumbum” is the word most commonly used in Brazil to refer to someone’s rear end.pau
In her country, the 30-year-old says, most people know about the competition, but like to pretend that they’re not interested.
In reality, though, “Every woman has read about it and won’t admit it,” she said, “and every man’s dream is to be a part of the judging team.”
This year the pageant will have a historic moment asÂ twins Rafaella and Graziella Fornazieri, representing Alagoas and Ăcre respectively, entered the contest.
Dai Macedo, a 25-year-old model with a 42-inch bottom, was crowned âMiss Bumbum 2013.â
“It’s a lot of work, a lot of devotion,”Â Macedo told Agence France-PresseÂ by way of an interpreter after winning the title. “I denied myself a lot of things. No nightclubs. No sweets. I went to the gym Saturdays and Sundays.”
The winner of the pageant receivesÂ 50,000 reais (approx. $22,000) in endorsement dealsÂ and instant celebrity in Brazil.
