Jessica Simpson tied the knot with former NFL player Eric Johnson at the San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara, California.
“We are overwhelmed with complete happiness and love having made our eternal commitment,” the newlyweds told reporters in an exclusive statement on Saturday. “To say ‘I do’ in front of family, friends and, most importantly, our children has been the happiest moment of our lives.”
The singer, 33, wore a Carolina Herrera gown when she exchanged vows with her longtime boyfriend, 34, in front of more than 250 guests, including Ashlee Simpson and her fiancé Evan Ross, Jessica Alba, Cash Warren, CaCee Cobb and Donald Faison.
The couple’s son, Ace, who just turned 1, took the rings to his parents while their daughter, Maxwell, 2, walked down the aisle as a flower girl accompanied by Ashlee’s 5-year-old son, Bronx.
“During the ceremony, an instrumental version of Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game” was played, according to an insider. At one point, cheers and claps erupted from the covered tent, which were decorated with stunning chandeliers,” The USA Today writes of the ceremony.
“Simpson and Johnson made it a fun-filled weekend for their guests, as they kicked back and relaxed with a good old fashioned BBQ to celebrate the Fourth of July a day earlier. Guests danced, sang karaoke, and played outdoor activities like corn hole, horseshoes and croquet.”
Simpson started dating Johnson four years ago, when they were introduced by mutual friends, and the pair immediately fell in love.
“I couldn’t ask for a better man in my life right now,” Simpson told reporters back in 2010. “I’m in a great place and if right now could last forever, I’d take it.”
Johnson took her up on that offer and proposed in November 2010 with an extremely beautiful ruby engagement ring by Neil Lane. However, wedding plans were put off – twice.
First Simpson gave birth to their daughter Maxwell, and then the couple welcomed their son Ace Knute last June.
“I definitely look forward to the day that I can look into his eyes and make that commitment that we both really long for,” Simpson told PEOPLE last year. “He’s just got to stop knocking me up!”
After having two kids, the singer worked tirelessly to drop the baby weight and even used her wedding as her 2014 fitness inspiration.
“The new year will definitely bring on the wedding bells, which is exciting…I think it’s about time,” Simpson said in an advertisement for Weight Watchers.
“Knowing that I have the wedding coming up is an incentive to stay on Weight Watchers, count my points and stay in the gym. I mean, when you see my dress, you’ll know.”
Before their wedding day and after their rehearsal dinner, the soon-to-be-married couple threw an adorable barbeque for the July 4th holiday. Jessica and Eric’s wedding planner Mindy Weiss shared all the details.
“We’re having a real Americana 4th of July party,” she told People. “It’s very down home. But it’s not a T-shirt and jeans Americana. Because Eric’s from Boston, it’s more khakis and white shirts. Very Kennedy!”
The couple provided a spread of good food including a cocktail hour, Southern buffet, and delicious desserts.
