E3 2014 Conference: Sony One Ups Microsoft with ‘Destiny’ [Video]

Destiny opens Sony’s E3 press conference, new PS4 bundle unveiled.

In a surprising case of one-upmanship, Activision Blizzard is set to launch its sci-fi tentpole “Destiny” on Sony’s world’s famous console PlayStation 4 before it hits stores and eclipses its main rival Xbox One.

The release, which was announed at Sony PlayStation’s press conference at the Electronic Entertainment Expo last evening, stands out considering “Destiny’s” creator, Bungie Studios, was behind Xbox’s biggest franchise, “Halo.” Game is the first that’s part of a 10-year deal between Bungie and Activision.

The company revealed to reporters that an alpha version of “Destiny” will become available to PS4 fans June 12, and a beta version will be ready on July 17.

“’Destiny’ isn’t just first on PS4, it’s better,” announced Andrew House, president and group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment as the game kicked off the company’s press conference.

Activision meanwhile released a new trailer for the highly expected game. “Destiny” is scheduled to be released on the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on Sept. 9.

“The game also will be bundled with the first white PlayStation 4 and white controller, this fall,” reports Variety.

The publication adds: “Not surprisingly, the rest of Sony’s press event, held inside the Los Angeles Sports Arena, was heavy on touting exclusive titles set to debut on the PS4 in the coming year.”

Our play it better theme continued during the press conference when Batman: Arkham Knight displayed some amazing gameplay footage and a special bonus: “Scarecrow Nightmare Missions” that will only be available on PlayStation,” writes Playstation Blog.

“Our friends at Ubisoft unveiled the co-op mode for Far Cry 4 and announced that when you buy the game on either PS3 or PS4 you can invite your PSN friends to join you even if they don’t own the game. Rockstar Games also joined us onstage to announce that Grand Theft Auto V, one of the best games of 2013, is coming to PS4. Plus, the current community of PS3 players, and Xbox 360 players will have the ability to transfer their GTA Online progress and online characters to the PS4.”

The company has also unveiled some details on “The Order: 1986”, as it showed a moment that had some survival-horror elements: the hero walking down a hallway, only to come across a werewolf.

“The player then needed to back-pedal down the hallway while the lycanthrope pursued. It was a horrifying moment for a game that had previously only looked like a cover shooter in the style of Gears of War,” describes the scene Venture Beat.

Sony closed out the conference with its ace card: the next game in the beloved Uncharted series from Naughty Dog. A new trailer revealed a new-gen Nathan Drake. He looked scruffy and handsome and roguish, but the publisher didn’t provide a release date. All we know is that the PS4 is getting some Uncharted, and it should look pretty good.
