Heroic Cat Saves Child From Vicious Dog Attack [Video]

A heroic and fearless can defended her little owner, as the four-year-old boy was attacked by a dog when playing near his in Bakersfield, California.

It’s A Bird… It’s A Plane… It’s SuperCat! In an astonishing video, a fearless feline saves his little friend from a vicious dog attack.

Four-year-old Jeremy was peacefully riding his bicycle outside his family’s home in Bakersfield, California on Tuesday, when suddenly a dog attacked him. If not for Tara the cat, everything could end in a terrible way.

However, the family’s fluffy pet was nearby and rushed to protect the boy, who was ripped off his bike by the dog and bitten multiple times on the ground. The feline chased away the dog, which was significantly larger, and returned to check on injured boy.

“I love Tara a whole lot,” said 4-year-old Jeremy Triantafilo of his beloved pet to KERO Bakersfield in an interview today. “She’s a hero!”

The little boy’s mother, Erica Triantafilo, was outside with her son at the time and managed to lift him to safety. Jeremy was taken to a local hospital where he received ten stitches. Mrs. Triantafilo later said she had “never seen anything like that.”

“It’s honestly just a blur,” Erica Triantafilo said Thursday on TODAY, describing the attack she witnessed on her son, Jeremy. “I just remember hearing him and the next thing I know, I see my cat flying out of nowhere, onto this dog, and just remember trying to get my son and get the dog away and back in its yard, away from both of us that it was trying to attack.”

The boy’s father, Roger Triantafilo, said: “I’ve never seen a cat do that. Especially ours. It just shows how much she really has a family-oriented mind set.”

“Every once in a while she puts our dog back into her place, but for the most part, she’s just the most mellow cat you’ve ever met,” Mrs. Triantafilo said. “All our boys love her and pick on her occasionally. She just loves them right back anyway.”

The family said they adopted Tara after she followed them home from a park six years ago. The cat and the child have developed a very strong bond, as the feline friend has been very protective of Jeremy from the moment he was born, even sleeping with him in a crib.

Bakersfield police identified the attacking dog as an eight-month-old Labrador-Chow mix, who apparently was known for having a dislike for children and bicycles.

TMZ reports that the dog was picked up by animal control on Tuesday, and according to Bakersfield Police spokesman Sgt. Joe Grubbs, the animal will be quarantined for 10 days and then euthanized.

The attack was caught on surveillance cameras outside the home and uploaded to YouTube by the boy’s father on Wednesday.

“My cat defends my son during a vicious dog attack and runs the dog off before he can do additional damage,” Mr. Triantafilo wrote beneath the video. “Thankfully, my son is fine!”

The boy’s mother said on Facebook: “We aren’t upset with our neighbors, we’re just thankful our son wasn’t injured more… Our cat is my hero!”
