The longtime Hollywood bachelor is officially off the market! 52-year-old George Clooney popped the question to his new love, 36-year-old British lawyer Amal Alamuddin, confirms People magazine.
Clooney had vowed to never repeat his marital vows but it seems his new lady in his life may have changed his playboy ways. In December the Oscar-winning actor told Esquire: “I haven’t had aspirations in that way, ever. I was married in 1989. I wasn’t very good at it.”
However, a source with knowledge of the situation confirms the A-list actor proposed to the raven-haired Alamuddin and exclusively shared with People magazine:
“George and Amal are trying to keep things very low-key but they also aren’t really trying to hide this, it doesn’t seem. I think it’s like they want the people they love to know that this is real, that they plan on being together forever.”
It’s hasn’t been yet revealed when and how Clooney proposed, but according to the source the engagement happened “not that long ago”, and the couple don’t appear to have wedding plans in the works.
On April 23, the couple was spotted dining together at Craig’s restaurant in West Hollywood – and, as one of the onlookers says “they were toasting the engagement.” The infamous Hollywood bachelor even told a fellow diner that they were engaged, the witness claims.
Entertainment Tonight reported that the actor’s stunning British girlfriend, was seen showing off a ring at Nobu in Malibu, California, on Thursday. Reportedly, the 52-year-old actor and the 36-year-old humanitarian lawyer indulged in a sushi dinner with George’s friends model Cindy Crawford and actor Edward Norton.
“This is the healthiest relationship I’ve ever seen George in,” a source recently told Us magazine. “He seems incredibly happy, and Amal is such a sweet and intelligent girl, who has her own thoughts and ideas and doesn’t just bow down to everything he says.”
Miss Alamuddin is a lawyer who specializes in international law and human rights. She is a graduate of the New York University School of Law and in 2011 she started representing WikiLeaks founder Assange in his fight against extradition to Sweden.
The beauty, born in Beirut, is fluent in French and Arabic and is also believed to be advising Kofi Annan, the former United Nations Secretary General, on Syria. She is also the author of several book chapters and articles on international criminal law.
She and George were first spotted stepping out together in London in October 2013. The two have since been seen traveling all around the world. In March, the two went on a trip to Tanzania, where they were snapped getting cozy during a safari, and they also visited the Seychelles.
George’s romance with Amal came shortly after he split from professional wrestler and model Stacy Keibler last July, whom he dated for two years from 2011 to 2013. Keibler reportedly ended their relationship because the Hollywood hunk didn’t want to settle down.
The “Monuments Men” star was married once before. He tied the knot with actress Talia Balsam in 1989, but the couple divorced four years later.
