Pop star Miley Cyrus has canceled her Tuesday night show in Kansas City, Mo., as she has been hospitalized because of a “severe allergic reaction to antibiotics.”
The announcement came in a statement on the website of the Sprint Center, where the “Wrecking Ball” singer was to hit the stage for a 7 p.m. show. Her rep told the Associated Press that Miley was on “medical rest” per doctors’ advice.
“Cyrus has been hospitalized for a severe allergic reaction to antibiotics and has been placed on medical rest by her doctors,” the statement said. “She will not be able to perform as scheduled.”
“Refunds for tickets will be available at the point of ticket purchase. Tickets purchased online or by phone will be automatically refunded.”
Cyrus had complained of feeling ill the day before on Twitter, stating that she had a fever, sore throat and was “#SICK.” The current condition of the 21-year-old singer was not clear, but she tweeted to fans from the hospital.
“Kansas I promise I’m as heartbroken you are. I wanted so badly 2 b there 2night. Not being with yall makes me feel sh***ier than I already do,” she tweeted.
The former Disney star also commiserated with a fan, writing, “trust me. I hate this. & I hate hospitals. & I hate needles. & I hate laying in a bed bored AF. & I hate feeling.”
However, it seems that “We Can’t Stop” singer is having a rather good company, as she also added a photo of her leggy friend to cheer her up, saying: “Mr. Octopussy & some amazing Drs are taking good care of me.”
Some fans had been waiting for hours in line, according to KMBC News, which reported some tears among the faithful.
“We’ve got two really upset kids over here. My niece hasn’t hasn’t talked since she found out,” one central Missouri mom told the local station. “And you know, an hour and a half before you walk in the door? Actually, 30 minutes, 6 o’clock we were supposed to go in. Kind of disappointed.”
It has been a hard month for Miley, following a tour bus fire en route to her concert in New Orleans on March 17. The singer was also forced to cancel her concert in Charlotte, North Carolina, earlier this month, after being diagnosed with the flu and ordered by doctors to rest.
The week before, Miley had performed in Boston, but the show had included a tearful rendition of Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide” as a dedication to a dog, Floyd, who was killed by a coyote. Miley’s mom bought her a new dog, Moonie, the singer confessed in a heartbreaking tweet that she’s not quite ready for a new furry friend.
“Moonie, thank you for giving me so much love, comfort, and peace. It’s just to soon for me right now,” Miley tweeted on April 13.
Cyrus is currently midway through her “Bangerz” tour, playing 60 shows across North America and Europe between February and June. Although, a Wednesday night performance scheduled at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis appeared to be ongoing according to their website.
