The two famous companies revealed their plans to cooperate. This move is considered to mean that the car maker intens to provide vehicular support for Virgin Galactic’s test center in the Mojave Desert in California.

Within the frameworks of their cooperation, Land Rover vehicles will be used at Virgin Galactic’s New Mexico astronaut training facility not far from Spaceport America, an 18,000 acre launch facility that serves Virgin Galactic, SpaceX, as well as a number of other suborbital missions.

To announce their future partnership in New York, in the run-up to this week’s New York International Auto Show, the car producer transported a full-size replica of the SpaceShipTwo VSS Enterprise, the vehicle Virgin Galactic will use for its upcoming flights.

“The safety and engineering excellence of Land Rover’s vehicles, which have been the stuff of legend for more than 65 years, are attributes which also lie at the heart of Virgin Galactic,” said Virgin Galactic founder Richard Branson in a statement.

“We look forward to crossing the final frontier together, and to a long and fruitful partnership,” the company added.

Land Rover also unveiled to the public the Discovery Vision Concept vehicle, a car the company calls the “SUV of the future.” The vehicle features “an augmented reality system that gives the driver what the company calls a “see-through” view of the terrain ahead and above.”

Riding this car, the driver has a unique possibility to use gestures in order to control to operate his signal indicators, headlights and open the doors.

To improve the safety of driving conditions, the vehicle also features Laser Referencing, which projects symbols and markers onto the road to help the driver during difficult low-speed driving scenarios.

But, as experts claim, probably one the most useful feature in the vehicle are its armrests, which were designed in such way so to be deployed as rolling suitcases that can fit in the overhead compartment of any normal commercial aircraft.

However, Land Rover has not offered a release date or price for the concept vehicle. Virgin Galactic’s SpaceShipTwo replica will remain on display at the USS Intrepid in New York until April 22.

Back in March a series of vehicles were unveiled to reporters at Geneva Motor Show.

Thus, McLaren used the chance to introduce its new McLaren 650S that comes in two variants – coupe and Spider convertible. It is a seriously powered beast with a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, 641bhp and 678Nm of torque, helping it hit 0-60mph in bang on three seconds. The chassis is MonoCell carbon fibre, which is super stiff and requires no extra strengthening.

A replacement for the Gallardo, Lamborghini’s top-selling model of all time, this sleek missile has new aluminum and carbon fiber components and a top speed of 325 kph (202 mph). The Huracan, Spanish for hurricane, transmits power to all four wheels, and has a new 7-speed dual clutch transmission and electronically controlled shocks.  The Huracan has huge carbon-ceramic brakes and a V10 engine that can go from 0-200 kph (0-124mph) in 9.9 seconds, or 0-100 kph (0-62mph) in 3.2 seconds.
