Darth Vader Running for President of Ukraine [Big Picture]

Darth Vader himself voiced his desire to run for the presidency in Ukraine.

Sith lord announced his plans to run for president as candidate of Ukrainian Internet party back in March, promising to create empire out of country.

While Ukraine is trying to stave off dark forces of its own, the Star Wars main character Darth Vader announced his plans to participate in presidential elections in a bid to restore glory to the downtrodden nation.

Vader, or at least an unnamed costumed protester now can be seen on Kiev’s Independence Square quite often, accompanied by his loyal stormtroopers during the winter protests.

He was chosen as the official candidate of the Ukrainian Internet party (UIP) which has become known for its theatrical public stunts.

“After winning intra-party primaries by a landslide, comrade Vader will be our party’s candidate,” said the UIP leader, Dmitry Golubov, who spent time in prison after being convicted of using the internet to run a credit card fraud scheme.

“Encased in black armour, with a black mask and cape, the party’s Darth Vader has been involved in several political actions in the country,” The Guardian describes the candidate.

Back in In November 2013 the sith lord was carried by his stormtroopers to Odessa city hall where he declared himself mayor. Vader has also reportedly demanded a plot of land to park his spaceship.

“I alone can make an empire out of a republic, to restore former glory, to return lost territories and pride for this country,” Vader said in a party statement.

Evgeny Feldman, a staff photographer for the Russian publication Novaya Gazeta, managed to capture a few photos of Ukranian Vader while he campaigned around the Heroic Defense of Odessa (the 411th Battery Memorial), a monument dedicated to Soviet soldiers who defended Odessa for months during World War II. Currently, it is a popular place for families to spend their weekends in the city, Feldman said.

Last week, Ukraine’s Central Electoral Commission rejected Vader’s bid to run, citing that his application was “questionable”. However, the UIP appealed the refusal, and Vader is continuing to campaign, Feldman reported.

“Darth Vader said that no one will be forced to join the dark side after he wins,” he added.
