The 33-year-old singer and actress took to Twitter to reveal to the whole world that she is now engaged to her longtime boyfriend Matthew Rutler who popped the question on Valentine’s Day.

“The Voice” mentor posted a picture of their hands, with a substantial rock on her finger and wrote, “He asked me and I said yes…”

Judging by the posted to Twitter photo, the proposal took place in a tropical place as the background shows palm trees and a beautiful beach, reports Fox News.

“They’re very much in love and are really excited to take this next step!” a source close to the pair told PEOPLE.

The couple first met when filming the 2010 movie “Burlesque” in which Aguilera performed alongside with Cher and Rutler was a film assistant. They two now live in a Mulholland Estates mansion that the ‘Candyman’ singer purchased for $10 million last year.

“When I finished filming, I didn’t feel right in my own shoes [at home],” she said. “I had a lot of things stirring inside of me that I felt were being suppressed. We just weren’t right for each other. I couldn’t face living another five years [together].”

She went on, adding: “We had a really strong friendship on the movie. He’s the kind of person you could spend hours on the phone talking to and all of a sudden it’s daylight. Once I filed for divorce, we started dating.”

“There’s a love there, yes. I’m having fun, I’m dating and it’s something I haven’t had in a really long time,” Xtina said at the time.

The Grammy winner previously spoke of about the positive effect Rutler has on her self-esteem.

“I’ve been through my highs, I’ve been through my lows; I’ve been through the gamut of all things in this business,” Aguilera shared. “Being too thin. Being bigger…It’s noise I block out automatically. I love my body. My boyfriend loooooves my body. My son is healthy and happy, so that’s all that matters to me.”

This will be the second marriage for Aguilera. She was previously married to music executive Jordan Bratman with whom she has a six-year-old son Max. Their divorce was finalized on Valentine’s Day three years ago.

The beauty later opened up about her “unhealthy and unhappy” relationship. “Things were so unhealthy and unhappy for both Jordan and me, I knew I had to end it,” Aguilera explained in one of her interviews.

“It wasn’t good for us, and it wasn’t good for [our son] Max to witness our arguments. When you’re unhappy in a marriage, your children are the ones who suffer. That’s the last thing I wanted for my son.”

She even confessed to reporters: “I start to cry when I think of all he has brought to my life. As a team, we make each other stronger, wiser…just better.”

The songstress also said that she tried to save her marriage. Aguilera spent much time together with her ex-husband and their son on a trip to Italy, but things still didn’t work out.”
