Paramount unveiled a first look first footage from Michael Bay’s fourth entry in the Transformers feature film franchiseââTransformers: Age of Extinctionâ during Super Bowl XLVIII on Sunday night.
Prior to last nightâs Super Bowl, Transformers fans had only been treated to official photographs of the upcoming summer blockbuster.
Bay revealed his plans to give fans a glimpse of the latest film at the Super Bowl in December, reminds the Metro. Writing on his official website, he said: âSo that brings me to letting Transformers fans know that we have completed our five and half month shoot. We got back from a month-long shot in China.
âMy crew and I had a fantastic time shooting in Hong Kong and Mainland China. I think the first piece comes out for the Super Bowl and a teaser right after that. And yes, Iâm very excited about this new movie.â
The fourth entry in the series is the first without Shia LaBeouf, starring Mark Wahlberg and an entirely new cast.
âTransformers: Age of Extinctionâ takes place four years after the invasion of Chicago in Transformers: Dark of the Moon, with Mark Wahlberg as Cade Yaeger, a mechanic, and Nicola Peletz as Tessa Yaeger, Cadeâs daughter. The two discover alien technology that attracts the attention of Autobots, Decepticons, and a paranoid government official named Harold Attinger, played by Kelsey Grammer.
The supporting cast includes Jack Reynor as Shane Dyson, Tessaâs race car driving boyfriend, Stanley Tucci as Joshua, designer who wants to build his own robots, and Sophia Myles as Darcy, Joshuaâs geologist assistant, says Comic Book.
The film brings back the series’ trademark, shape-shifting CGI robots, as well as new strain of machine called Dinobots, such as the Tyrannosaurus-shaped Grimlock.
It looks that the only Transformers confirmed to be returning in Age of Extinction are Optimus Prime, their leader who will now be transforming into a Western Star 4900 semi-truck, and Bumblebee, a 1967 Camaro who is supposed to be upgraded to the 2014 model during the film.
The Super Bowl is known for showcasing trailers for highly-anticipated blockbuster films. This year it gave viewers the first glimpses of Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Amazing Spider-Man 2: Enemies Unite Sizzle, Muppets Most Wanted, POMPEII and Monuments Men, with last yearâs show premiering trailers for The Dictator, John Carter, Battleship and Marvelâs Avengers Assemble.
Transformers: Age of Extinction is set to premiere June 27, 2014.
