And “she said YES!!!” One more actress is off the market.
Gabrielle Union is engaged to Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade, the couple announced on Saturday, Dec. 20. They announced the news through social media, around the same time as the two-time defending NBA champions were gathering for a team Christmas party.
“Soooo this happened…#Yessss,” the 40-year-old actress wrote on Instagram, along with a picture of her engagement ring. The ring is absolutely stunning, an 8.5 carat cushion cut diamond made by Jason of Beverly Hills, according to the Us Magazine report.
Dwyane also hopped on Instagram to adorably celebrate the engagement. “She said YES!!!” he wrote as the caption to the same photo Gabrielle posted.
It will be the second marriage for both Union, 41, and Wade, who turns 32 next month. No date has been announced, and the couple did not release any formal statements about the engagement Saturday night.
The soon-to-be bride and groom have been dating since 2009, and have never shied away from expressing their love for one another.
“She makes my eyes sparkle,” Wade told Oprah Winfrey on Oprah’s Next Chapter last summer. “The biggest time she makes my eyes sparkle is when Zaire (his 11-year-old son from a previous marriage) comes home and homework is a little hard that day, so he’s stressing, and she goes to the table with him and she sits down until he gets it.”
He added: “And at that time my heart is smiling a little bigger that day because I know her love is deeper than just me.”
When asked last year if she would get married again following her divorce from Chris Howard in 2006, Union told Access Hollywood, “absolutely,” adding, “but I’m taking a lot more time leading up to it.”
“It’s seriously awesome,” Union said of her relationship to Wade. “When you’ve been a couple for so long, people are like ‘when’s the baby!’…we both kind of rushed into marriage and neither one of us was successful at that, so we’re both kind of like, let’s take our time. If the goal is forever, what are we rushing for.”
Actually, there was apparently a recent hint at the engagement before it was announced. According to several media reports, the pair sent out Christmas cards together from the “Wade-Union Family,” with the message “Happy Holidays from the Wade-Union Family.” The cards also show photos of Wade and Union together, along with photos of them with Wade’s two sons and the nephew he’s raising.
Among Wade’s many accomplishments, according to his website, are winning a gold medal in the 2008 Olympics, being named one of People magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People and earning back-to-back NBA championship rings – in 2012 and 2013.
Wade has spent his entire pro career with the Heat since being drafted in 2003, helping the team win three championships and taking home MVP honors from the NBA Finals in 2006, says the Huff Post.
Union may be best known for some of her film roles, including “Bring It On”, “Meet Dave” and “10 Things I Hate About You.”
