‘Saturday Night Live’ Mocks ‘Fake’ Interpreter, Obama’s Selfie and Megyn Kell [Video]

Saturday Night Live mocked controversial events at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service in South Africa, his “selfie” and the fake sign language interpreter.

“Saturday Night Live” focused on a week full of ridiculous news headlines as the comedy skit show mocked President Obama taking a selfie with the Danish Prime Minister, the fake sign language interpreter that crashed Nelson Mandela’s memorial service and Fox News host Megyn Kelly’s comment that both Jesus and Santa are white.

Unfortunately for Mandela, Obama’s appearance at the memorial made more headlines due to unwanted attention to the “selfie,” and the discovery that the sign language “interpreter” seen during the footage of the event, was fake.

The skit, dedicated to the fake interpreter, opened with cast member Jay Pharoah playing Obama delivering an address on the “series of unfortunate events” that occurred at the Mandela memorial.

“I felt like Lemony Snicket, because I experienced a series of unfortunate events,” the faux Obama said. “First I got roped into taking a selfie with the blonde female Danish prime minister. Some people said Michelle was angry at me for that, but I talked to her afterward and I can assure you she was furious.”

The speech went on for a short while before Kenan Thompson appeared behind Pharaoh and began his role as the fake sign language interpreter from Nelson Mandela’s memorial service.

Thompson began his hilarious flailing as he found simple ways to try to “translate” what Pharaoh was saying in his speech. Eventually, he gave up and began making random gestures that caused the live audience to burst into laughter.

After the unhinged translator was seized by Secret Service personnel, a jealous German Chancellor Angela Merkel (played by Kate McKinnon) swooped in to demand two selfies with the President.

“I have und favor to ask,” McKinnon said in a hilariously awful German accent. “Ze Danish Prime Minister has been bragging all over Northern Europe about her selfie with you. And I vas hoping that I could get one as well.”

When Obama declined, Merkel guilt tripped him.

“Oh really? I think you kind of owe me after the whole phone-tapping mein cellphone thing.”

Later  Thompson returns for the show’s “Weekend Update,” playing Santa Claus and declaring him black after Fox News host Megyn Kelly’s “funny” statement that Santa is white. Kenan Thompson’s Santa assured viewers that he is ‘black as hell’ and explained how the impression that he is white helps get Christmas night deliveries done faster.

“A white guy taking credit for something a black guy did? I’m more used to it than okay with it,” he said.

“History always gets whitewashed. I bet you never knew there was a rewritten version of The Night Before Christmas. Let me read you the original. His eyes, how they twinkled, his dimples, they amazed, and when I saw him I exclaimed, ‘’Damn is that Isaac Hayes?’”

The “Weekend Update” then quickly became filled with Thompson referencing black stereotypes and racial profiling issues that explained why Santa couldn’t reveal his true identity. The skit goes on to explain why Mrs. Claus can’t be black and ends with Thompson asking people not to call the police on him when he sneaks into their homes on Christmas Eve.
