Telltale Games, the studio behind the award-winning video game based on “The Walking Dead” claims that it might give the same treatment to HBO’s fantasy epic “Game of Thrones”.
According to the Saturday announcement at Spike TV’s “Video Game Awards” the cable network is partnering with Telltale Games for a “Game of Thrones” video game expected to be released sometime in 2014.
The series, as well as the future video game, adapted from author George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” series of novels. Actually there were rumors circulating about the game being in the works some weeks ago.
“We’ll be taking advantage of all the fiction to make something great,” Dan Connors, CEO of Telltale Games, said during the announcement. “We’re just really getting into it right now and thinking about characters — who has the most at stake, who has the biggest impact on the world.”
Telltale posted on its Twitter account: “It’s TRUE! We’re working with @HBO to create an all-new episodic game series based on GAME OF THRONES in 2014! #VGX.”
In case the studio will follow the same strategy it used for the Walking Dead, the game inside the world of Westeros will be an interactive, character-driven adventure that relies heavily on plot and storytelling.
Telltale’s effort isn’t the first to be based on the smash hit series — a mediocre action RPG was released last year, and a free-to-play MMO is in the works — but the developer’s proven formula of interactive, character-driven storytelling may well be the best fit, says the Verge.
Telltale Games has released a fairly nondescript preview trailer for the series, which reveals very little about it, so gamers eager to enter the world of the Starks and the Lannisters will have to wait until the new year to see anything of real substance.
Running already for three seasons and with the fourth premiering this coming Spring 2014, Game Of Thrones has quickly become a pop culture staple, thanks to its brilliant storytelling and diverse cast of actors and actresses that bring life to the world of Westeros.
However, there is still no word on when in 2014 the “Game of Thrones” game will be released, but season four of the HBO series is set to debut in the Spring 2014, while season 3 finished its run in June, breaking Internet piracy records along the way.
As the Headlines & Global News report, a “Game of Thrones” collaboration with HBO wasn’t the only news from Telltale this weekend. The developer also announced a similar episodic series coming in 2014 based on another game series form developer Gearbox.
“Borderlands 2” has become a popular series thanks to its end-game content and DLC packages. Now Telltale will expand the game’s characters and story. It will include existing characters in the Borderlands universe and new ones, some of whom will be “wanna-be Vault Hunters” according to Gearbox head Randy Pitchford.
The game will released under the title “Tales from the Borderlands” and is “very much in Borderlands world” but will contain the typical game play from Telltale, which has promised it to be “big and bombastic.”
