Courtney Stodden, 19, and Doug Hutchinson, 53, are ending their three-year relationship. RadarOnline first broke the story that the buxom model and reality star, 19, and the former Lost actor, 53, were going their separate ways; no word yet on whether either party has filed divorce papers.
Courtney first made headlines when she married Doug in May 2011 — with her parents’ blessing — when she was just 16 years old.
The pair met after a fame hungry Courtney signed up for an acting workshop over the internet ran by Doug. They met in person after several months of ‘courting’ online, which Courtney’s mother Krista was aware of, and marriage followed soon after.
It is understood Courtney decided to end the marriage and Doug, 53, is said to be heartbroken. According to the source, Stodden’s unusual fame was a key factor in the couple’s split.
“She is branching out and doing her own thing and Doug is getting left behind,” the source continues. “Everything with Courtney and Doug is so contrived, but he wasn’t with her at her Halloween party and she’s always doing things by herself lately. He just isn’t part of the scene anymore now. They’ll probably stage a photo opp just to pretend they’re still together though.”
Courtney and Doug appeared together on the reality show Couples Therapy in 2012, but since then Courtney has been booking solo gigs. The split comes just two months after she made an appearance on Celebrity Big Brother in the UK. During her spell in the house, she flirted with fellow contestant Mario Falcone, 25.
“After Courtney experienced being in Celebrity Big Brother in the UK she realized that there is this whole world out there to explore,” the source explains. “She was so reliant on Doug up until doing the show, but after going so far away, she realized she could survive by herself.”
The controversial star’s time in London was “her first ever experience of having indepedence,” the source says of the outspoken Southerner.
“The dynamics had suddenly totally changed. They’ve been arguing so much since they came back from London.”
Additional sources attributed the break up to Stodden’s growing publicity, saying, “Doug knew he was taking a risk with the marriage, but he genuinely fell in love with Courtney and didn’t realize how much his life would be changed after they got married.”
In February, Stodden launched a music career with a video for single “Reality,” padding down the streets of Los Angeles in a skin-tight gold outfit.
It was reported that this summer, the couple enrolled in an eight-week course designed to increase communication and intimacy in relationships.
“We’re interested in keeping our marriage and sex life stimulated and starting now instead of waiting until it plays out,” Hutchison told E!Online at the time. “We communicate to each other. We want to please each other ultimately.”
In the midst of breakup rumors, the 19-year-old “Teen Bride” partied in a skimpy red devil costume that showed off her bum Thursday. She opened the doors of her Hollywood Hills home to celebrate the festivities with her friends. Guest in attendance included her actor friend Chris Winters, who she was spotted with earlier this year on a dinner outing.
