It’s a boy! On Saturday, the actress Halle Berry and husband, Olivier Martinez, welcomed the birth of their first son. Berry delivered the baby at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Her publicist Meredith O’Sullivan Wasson offered no other details.
For the 47-year-old actress it’s already the second child, who has a five-year-old daughter, Nahla, with ex-fiancé Gabriel Aubry. However, it’s the first for Frenchman Martinez.
The delivery came just a day after the Catwoman star had been spotted out in West Hollywood at restaurant Rivabella looking ready to pop in a sheer shirt covering her huge bump.
Actually, in her interview on The Wendy Williams Show last fall, Berry revealed that her five-year-old daughter, Nahla has long asked her for a younger sibling.
The X-Men actress first shared about her pregnancy on CNN in April, saying it was “the biggest surprise of [her] life.”
“Thought I was kind of past the point where this could be a reality for me,” she confessed at the time.
“So it’s been a big surprise and the most wonderful.” The Oscar winner largely kept mum about her pregnancy in the following months, but in May she did admit that she considered the pregnancy a “miracle.”
“I feel really happy. It’s one of the best things that happened in my life, for sure,” she told reporters at the 20th annual EIF Revlon Run/Walk For Women event at the time.
As for the first-time dad, the Parisian S.W.A.T. actor told People: “My son will remain an American, but I will remain French,” he explained. “I remain a Frenchman in America, but I adapt to American culture.”
The couple first met in 2010, on the set of their film Dark Tide, but Berry didn’t confirm their relationship until much later. Berry and Martinez, also 47, got married in an intimate ceremony in Vallery, France on July 13.
The wedding was likely an intimate affair. Reportedly there were 60 guests, mostly close friends, including Martinez’s mother Rosemarie and brother Vincent.
Dinner was held under an arbor, and there was a fireworks display. The ceremony took place in the Renaissance complex about an hour’s drive south of Paris, with the ceremony performed by a local mayor. The celebrations reportedly extended well into the night.
The Monster’s Ball Oscar winner was previously married to baseball player David Justice in the early 1990s and to singer Eric Benét in the early 2000s.
Martinez was by her side through the last months of her bitter custody battle with Aubry, the Canadian model who fathered daughter Nahla. They reached “an amicable agreement” over custody in November, a week after a Thanksgiving Day fistfight in Berry’s Hollywood driveway between Martinez and Aubry, says CNN.
While motherhood is obviously the only thing on her mind right now, the 47-year-old actress has just signed on to star in a serialised drama coming to CBS next summer called Extant, a 13-episode thriller.
As the Daily Mail reports, Berry will play an astronaut trying to reconnect with her family when she returns after a year in outer space. Her experiences lead to events that change the course of history.
