Lady Gaga is working hard to drum up excitement for her new material after months out of the spotlight. However, the “Poker Face” star reappeared on Twitter to share the naked photo with fans as part of her ARTPOP album campaign.

On Friday, the star teased fans with a futuristic picture featuring her naked except for black boots, sitting on a chair made entirely of computer parts and donning bizarre multi-lens glasses. Gaga tweeted saying, “1ST SINGLE FROM ARTPOP COMES AUG.19”.

Her first tweet since dropping off the radar on February 5 certainly did the job, capturing the attention of her 39.2 Twitter followers and creating plenty of hype.

The single is widely rumoured to be called “Applause”, after Gaga’s make-up artist Tara Savelo posted an image of what appeared to be the new artwork and captioned it “Applause”. Later Lady Gaga took to Twitter to announce that “ARTPOP” will be available for pre-order on August 19.

Taking to Twitter, she wrote: “Due to public anticipation ITUNES will now offer preorder for ARTPOP album/app AUG 19 the same day you can purchase my new single ‘Applause’.”

In the new artwork , taken by Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin,  Gaga’s face painted white with splashes of colour smeared around her eyes and mouth and her hair covered in a black wrap, as she emerges through a white billowing coat by designer Gareth Pugh.

The new song serves as the lead single from her forthcoming third album ARTPOP, which will be released on November 11. The song is a collaboration with DJ White Shadow, with whom she’s worked for five years, says the Daily Mail.

Lady Gaga is set to perform her much-anticipated new single at August’s MTV Video Music Awards. Three months before ARTPOP is released into the world, the singer will unveil its lead track before the crowd at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.

Lady Gaga is the first performer to be announced for this year’s awards, where Justin Timberlake, and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis lead the nominations, reports the Guardian.

While Lady Gaga was forced to cancel 22 shows on her Born This Way tour earlier this year in order to undergo hip surgery, she’s set to return to the stage this September as part of the iTunes Festival at Camden Roundhouse in London.

The day before ARTPOP’s release, November 10th, she’ll also host an “artRave” that will feature several collaborators, including artist Jeff Koons and performance artist Marina Abramovic.

Earlier this month, Gaga revealed that “ARTPOP” will be released as part of an app on November 11. According to the statement, “the app itself is a musical and visual engineering system that combines music, art, fashion and technology with a new interactive world-wide community”.

It continued: “The album ‘ARTPOP’ musically mirrors Gaga’s creative process as she passes through the mediums of each artist she collaborates with, scoring a blueprint of her journey. The result, a “rage” of electronic passion and fury, defining each artistic process from beginning to end, ‘ARTPOP’ could mean anything. But for her, this is a celebration of obsession.
