Ahead of her birthday, the former Disney star sat down with Ryan Seacrest for an interview and spoke of her private life including her split from the Canadian teen star, admitting that she was “stressed out” during the very public relationship and also when the couple went separate ways.

“I’m sure you could actually see those pictures of me being, like, way stressed out about it,” Gomez said in the televised special, which aired Sunday.

“And it’s hard, because what do you do? Do you just wanna sit in your house and hide and not go anywhere?”

“I was 18 when we started to date. I don’t know. You just have to be an 18-year-old and go through everything,” she said of romancing Bieber on-and-off since 2010. “I learned that I should definitely be way more private next time.”

“It’s hard to just date in this industry,” said Gomez, who added that having a big ego is a turnoff. “You can’t really help who you date.”

During her time with the teen superstar, the beauty even received death threats from Bieber’s fans via Twitter.

“I understand it. I was in love with Jesse McCartney. I was 13, and he was my life – everything to me,” she recalled. “He was with Katie Cassidy and I was so upset. It’s obviously not nice, but I get it.”

The singer denied rumors claiming that she is back with the 19-year-old and even confirmed she’s currently single.

“I’m okay with being content right now. I think that’s what I’m happy with,” the ‘Come And Get It’ star said. “Whatever happens, happens.”

Pop star Selena Gomez sat down and spoke about her new hit record, trying to face her fears and her goals for the future.

In the interview the singer also spoke of her new album, saying that it is quite different from anything she’s previously recorded.

“I just wanted to come back with a bang and be confident,” Gomez said.

“I have a tendency to always try to please people.” the teen sensation went on, adding that when creating her latest album she tried to make more personal creative choices and singing the songs she wants to sing.

Gomez says she tries very hard to maintain a regular life, but it is incredibly difficult, reports CBC News.

“I try my hardest to be a as normal as possible,” she said.

“It’s hard. If I do one thing and somebody finds out, you tend to get scared, but I don’t want to get scared of living my life. I can’t be scared to want to hang out with someone or go out to the mall … but at the same time i do try my hardest to keep things that are super private to myself.”
