New ‘Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ Trailer Debuts at Comic-Con [Video]

The cast of “The Hunger Games” is making its Comic-Con debut, along with the trailer for “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.”

Liam Hemsworth, Jennifer Lawrence, and Josh Hutcherson hit the press line at The Hunger Games: Catching Fire panel held during 2013 Comic-Con on Saturday afternoon (July 20) at the Convention Center’s Hall H in San Diego, Calif.

Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth and Lenny Kravitz were among the film’s stars who watched the trailer for the first time Saturday with more than 6,000 dedicated fans.

Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) return for the second installment of the Hunger Games saga, but things have most certainly changed – the trailer makes that repeatedly and abundantly clear – since she and Peeta Mellark remapped the rules of the game with their shared victory based on a sham romance.

The trailer features Katniss dealing with the repercussions of her actions in the first Games, feeling threatened by the Capitol and struggling in her relationship with her friend Gale (Liam Hemsworth).

“Since the last games, something’s different. You can see it,” Katniss’ sister Primrose says in the trailer. “What can you see?” Lawrence asks. “Hope,” Prim replies.

Now they return as competitors for the Quarter Quell — a deadly, quarter-century celebration version of the Games. The age limit (12 to 18) is not enacted in this showdown, but one male and one female from each of the 12 districts will still compete in a gruesome, televised contest against victors from other districts in the 75th Hunger Games, a.k.a. the third Quarter Quell.

“I think these games are gonna be different,” Woody Harrelson, as Katniss’ and Peeta’s grizzled mentor Haymitch Abernathy, says. “Last year was child’s play. This year you’re dealing with all experienced killers.”

“She’s struggling from post-traumatic stress from the Games,” says Jennifer Lawrence of her character, Katniss.

Lawrence and Hutcherson also talked about their kissing scenes in the film. Jennifer Lawrence, always blunt, told a hilarious story about a kissing scene between her and Hutcherson, which led to a lot of snot being exchanged. She said they involved “a lot of slobber.”

“I’ll put it on YouTube or something because you have to see it,” she said.

The actress also shared about her training for the movie.  Jennifer noted, “the hardest stunt is probably still just basic running.” She said she runs “weird” and added that she had a running coach for the film.

Lawrence, who won the best actress Oscar earlier this year for her role in “Silver Linings Playbook” and was previously nominated for “Winter’s Bone,” said that the Hunger Games Victory Tour is not unlike navigating Hollywood’s awards season.

“The stakes weren’t as high,” she quipped. Contestants in “The Hunger Games” must kill their competitors, says the NY Daily News.

She also spoke about her favorite outfit — the wedding dress. She added that it was her favorite “to look at,” and not so much to wear because it was massive, measuring five feet in circumference.

“And I’m not good at walking in giant dresses, as we know,” she said alluding to her now-infamous stumble at the Academy Awards when she won for best actress.

“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” stars Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Sam Claflin, Jena Malone, Lenny Kravitz, Donald Sutherland, Elizabeth Banks and more. “Catching Fire” is out on Nov. 22.
