More photos of some colorful plastic Apple iPhone casings leaked online. The new photos seem to confirm the existence of the so-called “low-cost iPhone.” The leaked pictures originated on the Chinese website WeiPhone according to the French website.
Apple has been rumored to be releasing a lower-cost iPhone to attack the mid-range of the smartphone market. It’s also rumored that the new phone would come in a variety of colors.
On Saturday, there was only a photo of a green version of this alleged iPhone surfaced, but now there’s an additional leak. In these pics the green shell has found a couple of friends in yellow and pinkish red, all adorned with an official-looking iPhone logo at the bottom and the iconic Apple logo in its usual position.
Steve Hemmerstoffer at French website claims that he was able to match up the holes on these casings to the attachment points found on a purported iPhone 5S motherboard that was previously leaked by the Japan-based retailer Moumantai. Based on this congruency, Hemmerstoffer believes these colorful iPhone casings may be authentic.
The Japanese blog Mac Otakara also reported earlier this month that the low-cost iPhone would be available in white, pink, black, blue, and orange colors. However, the latest leaked photos depict cases that are much brighter than anything seen before in previous leaked images.
The lively colors will certainly appeal to those who have become bored with the choice of only a black or white iPhone. Colours suggested by the site’s sources include the traditional white finish along with pink, green, blue, yellow, orange, navy, gold and grey – but without black making an appearance in the list.
In addition, those who think the current iPhone 5 is too fragile might be attracted to this plastic casing, and such a construction could be significantly lighter at the same time, reports Mashable.
One thought on these images: Apple’s new software, iOS 7 uses a bright new color palate. It would make a lot of sense visually if these bright, new-color iPhones matched the bright new colors of iOS 7, says the Business Insider.
The design of the iPhone 5S could also include a dual-LED flash for the camera and an altered microphone shape.
Tech Radar suggests that this is a purported plastic rear casing for a device which Apple could reveal in September or October.
The device is expected to target emerging markets rather than the US and Europe, opening up iOS and the App Store to those who may not have been able to afford an iPhone for the first time.
Also according to some sources close to the matter, 1,000 units of the plastic-cased cheaper iPhone will be produced for field testing next month, with a view for production to begin in earnest in July and September ahead of an autumn launch – likely alongside the iPhone 5S.
Apple, for its part, is continuing its silence regarding unannounced products, refusing to confirm or deny plans to launch a low-cost iPhone nor whether it intends to launch devices with multiple colour choices – something its main rival Samsung is already planning for its Galaxy S4 smartphone.
