After earning the Top Social Artist award and performing “Boyfriend” last year, the pop singer scored two more awards and took the stage twice at the 2013 event, which was held on Sunday night (May 19) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The teen performed his hit “Take You,” the most loved by his fans from his 2012 album “Believe,” showing off some breakneck choreography in a leather-heavy outfit before disappearing into a smoky metallic orb.

Soon he returned to the stage, this time to accept the Top Male Artist award, thanking his family and “Belieber fan group.” It was the first of two wins for Bieber on Sunday night: the 19-year-old also earned the new, fan-driven Milestone Award, sponsored by Chevrolet.

“I’m 19 years old – I think I’m doing a pretty good job,” Bieber told the Las Vegas audience after several seconds of fan screams. He also seethed about those who don’t view him as a true artist: “I should be taken seriously. This other bull should not be spoken of.”

The teen pop idol eclipsed a number of other artists, including Bruno Mars and Taylor Swift for the award.

However, Taylor Swift didn’t seem to be upset as she was the red hot winner at this year’s ceremony, winning eight awards, including top artist and top Billboard 200 album for “Red.”

“Thank you for making my music the soundtrack to your crazy emotions,” she said in a thank you to fans after being named artist of the year. “You are the longest and best relationship I ever had.”

Prince, who performed a medley of his classic “Let’s Go Crazy,” Edgar Winter’s instrumental “Frankenstein” and “Fix Ur Life Up,” took home Icon Award for a career that includes 10 platinum albums and 30 Top 40 singles, reports Billboard.

Rihanna had been lucky enough to walk away with four awards, winning in the R&B artist, album and song categories, plus Radio Songs Artist. Madonna, Nicki Minaj and One Direction won three each.

“I definitely did not expect this one,” said Minaj of the award of the live telecast for top rap artist, wearing a bright red dress.

“Somebody That I Used To Know,” the extra famous hit from Gotye and Kimbra that has sold 7.3 million downloads, won in the categories of Hot 100 Song, Rock Song, Radio Song and Streaming Song (Audio).

According to CBS News, Bruno Mars kicked off the show in red suits that matched their dance moves, with bright gold disco balls hanging above them. Mars performed his new single, the upbeat and old-school flavored “Treasure.”

Nicki Minaj gave Lil Wayne a lap dance during “High School” and Miguel employed 3D imagery for his performance of “Adorn,” one of many elaborately staged performances.

“The crazy thing is, when you’re performing and you’re just kind of into it, you never know where it’s gonna go and where you’re gonna go with it,” Miguel told reporters backstage. “And how that might turn out. So this is one of the less favorable moments.”

Such pop stars as Jennifer Lopez, Pitbull, Christina Aguilera, Ed Sheeran, David Guetta and Kacey Musgraves performed Sunday night. Presenters include Shania Twain, Psy, Celine Dion, Miley Cyrus and CeeLo Green.
