After five years of dating NBA legend and Bobcats owner Michael Jordan married to his girlfriend Yvette Prieto, a former model, at a wedding in Florida on Saturday.
About 500 people gathered in an Episcopal church called Bethesda-by-the Sea, where Donald Trump was tied the knots with Melania in 2005.
The NBA star also invited another 1,500 of his friends to join him for the reception at the Bears Club, a Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course community in Jupiter, Fla., where Jordan recently built a 38,000-square-foot home, PEOPLE Magazine reports.
“They’ve been planning for months and months,” a source close to the couple told reporters of the nuptials. “He wanted to give Yvette everything she’s ever wanted.”
While 2,000 guests does not exactly suggest a modest affair, the full size of this event cannot be communicated by words. The couple’s venue is the “largest tent in wedding history,” and is actually 5,000 square feet larger than their home, writes The Huffington Post.
One employee of a vendor working on the tent revealed to reporters that nearly 20 young men are ivolved in constructioning the site for the reception and banquet. The sheer size of the structures surprised a veteran of a dozen big deal weddings.
“Three tents are being put up in his backyard, over the surface of two football fields,” a source said, but wished to remain anonymous as those involved with Jordan’s wedding have signed confidentiality agreements.
“I calculated a total under-roof space of about 600 feet long by 150 feet wide. I’ve never seen anything like it. I’ve been working weddings for a while. It looks like he’s having about 2,000 people over,” he predicted at the time and, as it appeared later, he was right.
The wedding tent is 40,000 sq ft, 5000 sq ft larger than his home in the elegant and classy Bears Club in Jupiter, Fl, reports JeffRealty.com.
“The layout of the wedding tent structures appear to invite guests in on the left to a reception area followed by a main area where the ceremony is likely to take place along with dining afterward – and finally an enormous ballroom and dance floor already darkened with paneling to allow for lighting and effects to go along with the music,” the site adds.
This is Jordan’s second marriage. Seven years ago Jordan, who is considered the greatest U.S. basketball player of all time, plit from his first wife of 17 years, Juanita, in what Forbes called the costliest divorce ever. He is the father of two sons and one daughter from that marriage.
