The suit comes from Antonio de la Rua, who claims that he played a great role in making Shakira a superstar. However, the ‘La Tortura’ singer is calling out her ex-fiance, insisting that she had already become famous by the time they started dating.
Shakira and de la Rua have been linked together since 2000 and they called it quits back in 2010. In the filed lawsuit Shakira’s ex claims that he acted like her manager and helped her to get some very beneficial contracts and is owed a big chunk – $100 million to be exact – of her earnings.
However, according to legal documents, the beauty says she was already an international success when she met her former boyfriend and explains that even though he helped her with some decisions, he was never her manager.
Shakira, who is currently dating with Gerard Pique, claims that the only contract she and de la Rua ever signed was a 2006 agreement in her native Colombia, in which they decided to keep their own assets separate if they split.
The diva has recently welcomed a baby-boy. Shakira announced the birth on her website in a statement published in English, Spanish and Catalán:
“We are happy to announce the birth of Milan Piqué Mebarak, son of Shakira Mebarak and Gerard Piqué, born January 22nd at 9:36pm, in Barcelona, Spain.
The name Milan (pronounced MEE-lahn), means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification.”
“Just like his father, baby Milan became a member of FC Barcelona at birth,” the site stated. “The hospital confirmed that the couple’s first child weighed approximately 6lbs. 6 ounces, and that both mother and child are in excellent health.”
The “She Wolf” singer – whose full name is Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll – appealed to her fans via Twitter, writing: “I’d like to ask you all to accompany me in your prayers on this very important day of my life. Shak”
The “Loca” has been dating soccer player Pique for around two years and previously said he is the “best thing” to ever happen to her, until she got pregnant.
“This man is the best thing that could have happened in my life. And now the baby!” said the singer.
The happy couple previously threw fans and the media for a loop with a false alarm back in December, when Pique announced their son’s birth as part of an April Fool’s Day-like holiday prank, writes the US Magazine.
“Our son has been born! We are very happy! Thanks to all for your messages,” he tweeted his 4.7 million followers in Spanish on Dec. 27. After sending everyone into a flurry, however, the prankster athlete clarified that Shakira was still very much with child.
“It has a name! His name is Innocent!” he clarified on the social media site. “Happy Dia de los Inocentes to all!”
The couple even released a photo posing semi-nude together to invite fans to a special baby shower celebration, which aimed to raise funds for UNICEF, a United Nations program that helps children worldwide and for which the singer has served as an ambassador for many years.
