Beyonce is no one’s idea of a shy housewife. But for some reason she felt the need to make that point blindingly obvious in her bracing new track, Bow Down/I Been On.
The 31-year-old singer released a recording entitled Bow Down / I Been On, along with a picture of herself as a child, with a room full of trophies behind her.
And the lyrics include the lines: “I know when you were little girls you dreamt of being in my world. Don’t forget it. Respect that. Bow Down b******.”
There is no official word on if either song will be featured on her upcoming fifth studio album.
The first song “Bow Down” has Beyoncé spewing out the chorus, “Bow down b**ches, bow down b**ches, I’m H-town vicious”.
Over a brisk and needling hip-hop beat, the supreme diva aims her declaration at those “who dreamed of being in my world,” commanding them to “Bow down, b******.”
The lyrics also touch on how Queen B took time off from the music industry to travel, have a baby, and vacation with her husband Jay-Z. She sings, “I took some time to live my life, but don’t think I’m just his little wife”.
The second half of the three-minute-and-33-second song contains a dramatically altered version of Beyonce’s voice, slowing it down to a deep rap.
The sound echoes the druggy style of “chopped and screwed” recordings, a hallmark of the Houston hip-hop scene.
Both parts were produced by Hit Boy, who oversaw a recording by Beyonce hubby Jay-Z and Kanye West called “N—-s in Paris.” The track represents the first new recording released by Beyonce since her smash 2011 CD, “4.”
While the new track addresses her absence from the music industry and asserts her authority as Queen Bee of the charts, but the music is already causing controversy and dividing fans.
Her fans might be familiar with some of the music in the second portion of the recording, a snippet of which accompanies the 02 Priority adverts filmed to promote the singer’s UK tour dates.
It appears that the music is actually sections from two different songs, Bow Down is said to have been produced by Hit-Boy and Beyoncé is said to have worked with Timbaland on I Been On, reports the Daily Mail.
Plenty of the Destiny’s Child star’s fans welcomed the new music with one listener writing: ‘Sorry I’m not sorry that @beyonce is a trend-setter and doesn’t sound like everyone else. It’s about changing the game #beyhive.’
The song serves as a tease for a new album to be released during the star’s upcoming, 42-city world tour, which kicks off April 15th in Belgrade, Serbia.
Beyonce’s latest declaration of supreme diva-ness may well come in reaction to the title she herself gave to the upcoming tour: “The Mrs. Carter Show,” which references her married name
The tour hits in the United States on July 31 at the Izod Center before coming to Brooklyn’s Barclays Center Aug. 3, 4 and 5.
