The past four years have, Kate Winslet claims, given her a new clarity about her life and work.
If only they had done the same for the way she expresses herself.
The Academy-Award-winning actress opened up (and zipped down) in wide-ranging interview and sexy shoot by photographer Alexi Lubomirski for the April issue of Harper’s Bazaar UK.
The 37-year-old actress supplied readers of Harper’s Bazaar magazine with a rather rambling insight into her state of mind in an interview for the April edition.
“I’ve really learnt a great deal about myself, in the last four years in particular,” says the 37-year-old Oscar winner, referring to the period of life following her divorce from her second husband, Sam Mendes.
She and Mendes didn’t reveal they had split up until March 2010, but it appears the self-discovery got under way a bit before then.
The couple have a son, Joe, now eight. Miss Winslet also has a daughter, 12-year-old Mia, from her first marriage to Jim Threapleton, which ended in 2001.
“I think I can see more clearly now – about how the pattern of past experiences has shaped who I am, and the characters I have played – and I’m grateful for that.
Winslet, last seen on the big screen in 2011’s “Contagion”, tied the knot with Ned Rocknroll in December in a small ceremony that flew entirely under the radar until she chose to confirm the news weeks later.
And it sounds as if she’s firmly of the belief that navigating life’s ups and downs has only made her stronger.
The actress continued: “I have so much more material to draw on for work – rubble, bricks – and I know I can carry it now.
Her third husband, Mr Rocknroll, is Richard Branson’s nephew.
The couple met in 2011 while they were both staying on Sir Richard’s exclusive Caribbean island, Necker.
“I’m not going to drop it, and if I do, I’ll sift through it. Does that make any sense at all? Probably not…”
The actress, who won critical acclaim for her performances in The Reader, Revolutionary Road and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, added her life had “shaped who I am and the characters I have played”.
Miss Winslet won her first Oscar in 2009, for The Reader, but her professional success was marred by her split from second husband, director Sam Mendes, the following year.
Meanwhile, before swapping vows for a third time, Winslet had an audience with none other than Queen Elizabeth II, who presented the actress with a CBE, or Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, writes E Online.
“Oh my God, she [Queen Elizabeth] looks amazing. Beautiful skin – and wonderful thick hair. She looked really well and pretty and fresh, and she was wearing a lovely pale-yellow dress,” the actress told the magazine about her royal stamp of approval.
Fortunately, the British bombshell dressed significantly down for the rest of us.
