It looks likes a miracle for Kate Upton admirers who have been dreaming about the bombshell ever since she wowed on the cover of last year’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition.
The sexy supermodel is on the market, at least that’s what she said today on FOX 2 News in Detroit.
After months of rumors about a relationship with Detroit Tigers’ pitcher Justin Verlander, spottings of the two and seeming confirmation by their family members, it seemed pretty certain that the covert celebs were a couple. But not according to Upton.
Thursday, in her interview with FOX 2 Detroit, Sports Illustrated cover girl clammed up when reporter Jason Carr asked a lengthy and leading question about her “boyfriend Justin Verlander” and if “there are any plans for any nuptials,” making for an intense moment of beautiful awkwardness.
“Actually, I’m single right now,” she said, “so I spent my [Valentine’s Day] in Melbourne, Fla.”
That seemed very odd, especially since Upton and Verlander have been seen together on numerous occasions over the past year. Upton seemed to become a regular at Comerica Park in Detroit when JV took the mound.
According to the USA Today, so far, the only confirmation of any romance between the pair came from Verlander’s grandfather, who said in October that he “heard he has been on dates with a Sports Illustrated girl,” and added that the Tigers’ ace is “a good looking man, too.”
The two reportedly met when they were recording the video game commercial “MLB 2K12.”
Assuming the two are dating, or at least were dating as recently as their reported vacation to St. Thomas over New Year’s, the relationship doesn’t seem to have distracted either from success.
Verlander pitched about as well last year as he did during his MVP season in 2011, and went on to post a 2.25 ERA in the postseason in 2012. Upton just landed her second straight Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue cover, becoming the first model in over a decade to score top billing in back-to-back years.
Kate Upton has also revealed that she suffered from frostbite after shooting her second Sports Illustrated cover in Antarctica.
The shoot took 10 days in December, which is Antarctica’s the coldest period of the year. Some of the photos were shot from the base ship, which also carried the team from one icy land shooting site to another.
Miss Upton’s second Sports Illustrated splash was officially unveiled on Monday – enlarged into a huge Billboard on the front of the David Letterman studios in New York.
She was first chosen as rookie of the year in 2011, when Irina Shayk was on the cover, and went on to front the February 2012 edition, which saw her career skyrocket.
As the Daily Mail writes Kate Upton hit a recording studio for the latest episode of Skullcandy’s Take a Supermodel to Work web series.
Sexy blond joined rapper Big Boi and NFL wide receiver Stevie Johnson and showed plenty of sass and ability on the mike.
