Katherine Webb, who suddenly attracted attention after she surfaced during the BCS National Championship game in January, seems to have done it again.
This time the gorgeous brunette has taken her into the sultry pages of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.
Webb, who became one of college football’s most recognizable faces – even though she doesn’t play – will soon appear in one of the most popular magazines of the year, which has just hit newsstands.
As The Daily Mail reports, it’s the latest venture for the beauty since she came on sports fans’ radar during the BCS Championship, where her boyfriend, quarterback A.J. McCarron, led Alabama to a big win over Notre Dame.
It has been rumored earlier that Webb would pose for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition and today the magazine published more than two dozen photos of the brunette in various bikinis, football jerseys online.
While Kate Upton gets the cover, Katherine may dominate the hype leading up to the issue hitting stores on Feb. 12.
In the photos published by Sports Illustrated today, the Alabama star dons a jersey that represents her Alma Mater as well as her boyfriend’s school.
The jersey is split in the middle (and cut way above the waist) to show Alabama on one side and Auburn on the other, Inquisitr reports.
Sports Illustrated writes: “Katherine Webb has been busy: The former Miss Alabama competed in the Miss USA pageant last June, she became an overnight sensation when Brent Musburger gushed over her during the BCS Championship game in January, and this week she graces the pages of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.”
“Webb (an Auburn alum whose boyfriend is Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron) gained a devoted Twitter following after the title game — she went from 2,000 to 175,000 followers, a mob that includes a slew of celebrities and athletes like LeBron James and Darnell Dockett — and became one of the most-searched women on the Internet. Her Swimsuit photos won’t make her any less popular. See for yourself.”
The model will also feature in the upcoming Celebrity Diving, alongside Lions star Ndamukong Suh.
It’s quite clear that Webb is at the beginning of the incredible career and she is predicted to join an impressive list of supermodels who have also posed in their poolside finery for the magazine – including Elle Macpherson, Heidi Klum, Tyra Banks, Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell and Kate Upton.
Last week, Sports Illustrated unveiled the cover, which features Kate Upton wearing nothing but an open winter coat and bikini bottoms. After the triumph that was Kate Upton’s 2012 cover, the blonde bombshell model has returned for more.
No wonder David Letterman has nine other models lined up for Monday’s show in addition to Upton—there’s no such thing as a big official reveal anymore! “Congratulations Ms.@kateupton!! Making history!” tweeted Brooklyn Decker, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition 2010 cover girl .
Upton will become the ninth model to grace the coveted SI Swimsuit Edition cover twice, as well as Paulina Porizkova, who posed in 1984 and 1985 and Tyra Banks that starred in 1996 and 1997.
Four women have been the cover model three times, including February 2012 Forbes cover subject Kathy Ireland, who appeared in the swimsuit issue for 13 straight years, and whose 1989 cover is still the best-selling issue to date.
Elle Macpherson has been on the cover the most, with five appearances, says the Forbes.
