Justin Timberlake’s New Song ‘Suit & Tie’ Breaks Records [Video]

Singer Justin Timberlake strolled into the record books with “Suit & Tie,” the ‘N Sync alumnus’ first single since 2006.

Justin Timberlake released his new single, “Suit and Tie,” on January 13, which also features rapper Jay-Z.

Suit & Tie,” a highly anticipated track, was released late Sunday night, a few days after Timberlake teased his big musical comeback a video on his website that showed him walking into a studio, putting on headphones and saying: “I’m ready.”

The song, which came out Jan. 13, ranked number 14 on Billboard’s Pop Songs radio airplay chart with the most debut-week plays ever in the U.S. since the chart’s creation in 1992.

According to Billboard, “Suit & Tie” logged 6,045 plays in the Jan. 14-20 tracking week, surpassing Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way,” which opened (at No. 14) with 4,602 plays in February 2011 to nab the highest-debut week play sums in the chart’s history.

It also marked the highest bow for a song by a male artist.

RCA Records also says Timberlake sold 310,078 digital singles of “Suit & Tie” (featuring Jay-Z), which marks his best premiere-week sales ever, for a song.

The song has also gone straight to the top spot on iTunes charts in 31 different countries, including United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Sweden, France, and Brazil, reports the Hollywood Reporter.

In another 54, it is sitting pretty in the Top 10. That’s especially impressive considering that JT only told the world he was “ready” to release new music just three days before he dropped the single!

Meanwhile, sales for Justin Timberlake concert tickets have experienced a huge surge. Ticket venders Viagogo have reported that tickets to see the star live are outstripping Justin Bieber by four to one.

The song, which features Jay-Z, is Timberlake’s first single in six years and will be included on his album, The 20/20 Experience, which will be released this year.

In an open letter posted on his official website, Timberlake wrote that although he has expected criticism for “teasing” his fans with news of a musical comeback last week, it had been “a lot of fun”.

He wrote: “This year is an exciting one for me. As you probably have heard through the ‘grapevine’, I’m gearing up for a big 2013. Back in June of last year, I quietly started working on what is now my next journey with that thing I love called music…

“The inspiration for this really came out of the blue, and to be honest, I didn’t expect anything out of it. I just went into the studio and started playing around with some sounds and songs.”

The new song was created in the singer’s cooperation with Timbaland, who produced much of the Grammy-winning “FutureSex/LoveSounds.”

Timberlake’s most-recent studio album – FutureSex/LoveSounds – was released in 2006 and certified four-times platinum.

He spent the years after its release pursuing a film career, starring in such films as The Social Network, Bad Teacher, Friends With Benefits and In Time.

Promising further material, Timberlake said: “It was probably the best time I’ve had in my career… Just creating with no rules and/or end goal in mind and really enjoying the process.”

“I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed making it.”
