“The Hunger Games” devoured the competition at the People’s Choice Awards on Wednesday, emerging the top victor with five trophies.
Its main star, Jennifer Lawrence, picked up the trophy for favorite face of heroism for her performance in “The Hunger Games,” and she shared the prize for favorite on-screen chemistry with her co-stars, Chris Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth.
Jennifer was also named favorite movie actress, an award that isn’t specific to her role in “The Hunger Games.”
“Thank you for loving movies as much as I do,” Lawrence, who is likely to receive an Oscar nomination Thursday morning for “Silver Linings Playbook,” said as she accepted the favorite actress award.
Sandra Bullock picked up the show’s first favorite humanitarian award for her efforts in New Orleans. An emotional video montage of Bullock with students and volunteers at the school played as she accepted the award from Regina King.
“I’m not at all being modest when I say I’m not doing anything compared to what they do on a daily basis,” Bullock, 48, told the crowd during the Los Angeles ceremony.
Katy Perry won three awards at the Wednesday night ceremony in Los Angeles, at which fans selected the winners in categories spanning music, movies and television. Perry was the fan favourite in top music categories, including Pop Artist, Female Artist and Music Video (Part of Me), while her KatyCats won Favorite Music Fan Following.
Other awards went to Robert Downey Jr. for favorite movie actor, Emma Watson for favorite dramatic movie actress and The Wanted for favorite breakout artist.
Ellen Pompeo and Nathan Fillion also won favorite dramatic TV actress and actor, Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston won favorite comedic movie actor and actress and Maroon 5 took the award for favorite band, reports the CBS News.
The People’s Voice Award went to Christina Aguilera, who performed an emotional rendition of Blank Page.
The 34th annual People’s Choice Awards kicked off awards season on Wednesday night as stars descended upon the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles, with Kaley Cuoco as the evening Mistress of Ceremonies – the actress changing a total of five times throughout the ceremony.
“The Big Bang Theory” actress Kaley Cuoco ended with her sitcom earning the award for favorite network TV comedy.
Ellen DeGeneres took home her 13th award for favorite daytime TV host. “It’s 2013, this is my 13th People’s Choice Award,” she said as she accepted the honor. “It is exactly as the Mayans predicted. So far, they got one right.”
Taylor Swift was given the award for favorite country music artist. Swift kept things moving after the staged awkward moment, starting her speech with a shrug: ‘This always happens’.
The cast of Glee added to their mantle, with Lea Michele and Chris Colfer winning Favorite Comedic TV Actress and Actor, says the Daily News.
Alicia Keys and Jason Aldean also performed, bringing the house to their feet with their respective hits Girl on Fire and My Kinda Party.
While there was no sign of Robert Pattinson or Kristen Stewart at the prizegiving, Twilight superfans, better known as Twihards, won Favorite Movie Fan Following, while Favorite TV Fan Following went to SPNFamily, the supporters of Supernatural.
