A three-time U.S. Olympian has spent the last year working as a $600-an-hour call girl, the move that she now regretfully calls a “huge mistake.”
In December 2011, Favor Hamilton, 44, set to a new work as “Kelly Lundy” for a Las Vegas escort service called Haley Heston’s Private Collection.
She apparently later told the truth to some clients, believing that it would never surface. But it did, and a reporter for The Smoking Gun confronted Favor Hamilton the star had to confess.
She described her second work as “exciting,” a midlife diversion from her daily routine. She operated a Wisconsin real estate brokerage with her husband, delivered motivational speeches, and did her best to promote various businesses and groups.
Hamilton also admitted that her husband Mark, 44, was aware of her escort work, but that, “He tried, he tried to get me to stop. He wasn’t supportive of this at all.”
The couple lives in a $600,000 home and appears to be quite successful financially based on a review of court and municipal records.
Referring to a client she suspected of contacting a reporter, Favor Hamilton said, “He totally broke all the rules by outing me.”
But she highlighted that revenge is not her style of life. “I don’t want to be like him. Because he is scum. And I will not become scum to make myself feel good,” the woman said. “I will not do it. I would suffer rather than go that route of being vindictive.”
The Olympic winner was reported to have been in troubles with her career and personal life. Since retiring, Favor Hamilton revealed that she felt enormous pressure as an athlete, not only to win but to be perfect.
Suzy confessed that she struggled with family tragedy, self-doubt and an eating disorder while trying to succeed in a sport.
According to Favor Hamilton, she was in the centre of attention during the Summer Olympics, where winners are celebrated, and where losers are quickly forgotten.
On Thursday, the sport star even went further as she took to Twitter to write that she began “escorting” because it provided “coping mechanisms” and “escape” from a life in which she continued to feel depressed and struggled with her marriage.
“I realize I have made highly irrational choices and I take full responsibility for them,” Favor Hamilton wrote. “I am not a victim here and knew what I was doing.”
She added: “I do not expect people to understand, but the reasons for doing this made sense to me at the time and were very much related to depression. As crazy as I know it seems, I never thought I would be exposed, therefore never hurting anybody.
“I have been seeking the help of a psychologist for the past few weeks and will continue to do so after I have put things together.”
The woman continued: “I cannot emphasize enough how sorry I am to anyone I have hurt as a result of my actions and greatly appreciate the support from family and those closest to me.”
She closed her series of tweets by saying: “I fully intend to make amends and get back to being a good mother, wife, daughter, and friend.”
