Kelly Clarkson has yet another reason to celebrate this holiday season. Finally her wait for a ring is over.
Just a day before the “Miss Independent” singer is set to hit the stage in L.A. for “VH1 Divas,” she announced to fans that she’ll soon be Mrs. Blackstock.
The singer tweeted the good news Saturday, a day after her beau Brandon Blackstock popped the question.
“I’m engaged!!!!!” she announced Saturday on Twitter. “I wanted y’all to know!! Happiest night of my life last night! I am so lucky and am with the greatest man ever.”
This will be the first marriage for Clarkson and the second for Blackstock, who has two children from a previous marriage.
She then followed that by posting a link to a photo of her canary yellow diamond engagement ring on a website. She wrote that her boyfriend helped design it and that she “can’t wait to make Brandon’s ring.”
According to the New York Daily News, Clarkson’s album “Stronger” hit No. 2 last year on the Billboard 200 sales chart, and she in previous years topped pop charts with her songs “My Life Would Suck Without You” and “A Moment Like This.”
The Texas-born singer won the Fox television singing contest “American Idol” in the show’s debut year in 2002, and has had more success than many of the show’s stars from following years.
The typically private Clarkson has been dating Blackstock for nearly a year, and back in June, she opened up to Redbook magazine about how she met the talent manager through his stepmom, country star Reba McEntire.
The Hollywood Life reports, she told Ryan Seacrest a few months ago on his radio show, “We were just in a room together, and then he came up and said he was from the same hometown as me and I was like, ‘Oh, we’re so getting married’ – I was so that girl.” Clarkson also gushed to Seacrest, “When he became single, I was on the prowl.”
Initially she wanted to take things slow, telling Ryan, “We’re taking it slow, and we’re enjoying each other. I’m from a family of broken marriages, but we will definitely break that trend one day.”
The chart-topping 30-year-old, who has padded her catalog with breakup anthems, was so enamored of her BF, she admitted at the time that their relationship seemed almost too good to be true. “I told my assistant that today, I said, ‘I’m just waiting for something to blow up.’
In one of her interviews the singer said: “We are totally going to get married. We love each other. We are totally going to get married one day.”
She then held up her hand and continued: “I mean, he’s got to put a ring on at some point.” She added: “But I’ll wait it out.”
In the same November appearance, Clarkson said she expected to get engaged to Blackstock. “We will totally, probably elope,” she claimed at the Ellen DeGeneres Show.
