File this story under news that makes us feel all warm and fuzzy…and old! Nineties are officially back!
Children of the ’90s will react with either joy or skepticism to the news that Boy Meets World is coming back for a sequel called Girl Meets World. However Boy Meets World fans, meet the best news you’ll hear all day.
Ben Savage will be playing Cory Matthews once again! The actor has joined the cast of “Girl Meets World,” the sequel series to the ’90s ABC comedy “Boy Meets World,” according to the Disney Channel.
Danielle Fishel will also reprise her “Boy Meets World” role as Topanga Lawrence for the pilot, says the Huffington Post.
Ben Savage played the mischievous Cory Matthews from 1993-2000, going from sixth-grader to college student and newlywed.
Following “Boy Meets World” series finale, Savage went on to graduate from college in real life, earning a degree in political science from Stanford in 2004.
The now 32-year-old has continued to act, both in movies like 2007’s “Palo Alto, CA,” and with appearances on shows such as “Without a Trace,” “Bones,” “Chuck” and “Shake It Up!”
Fishel tried her hand at film with “National Lampoon Presents Dorm Daze” after the series ended, but has moved away from acting in recent years.
The 31-year-old has served as a special correspondent on “The Tyra Banks Show,” as host of Style’s “The Dish,” and now appears on MSN TV’s “Last Night on TV.”
Boy Meets World was a comedy about a character named Cory Matthews (Ben Savage). The show started with Cory as a young boy in middle school and centered around the lessons he learned in life.
By the end of the series, Cory and Topanga (Danielle Fishel), Cory’s childhood sweetheart, were married and living together.
Now they’ll play a happily married couple and parents to a 13-year-old girl named Riley (from whose point of view the story is told), in the “Boy Meets World” follow-up.
In the new series Cory will be a history teacher, just like his “Boy Meets World” mentor Mr. Feeny.
E! Online reports, the pilot is still in the very early stages of development with creator and executive producer Michael Jacobs, Emmy Award-winning creator and producer behind Boy Meets World, My Two Dads and Charles In Charge, among others.
For the role of Riley there is held a nationwide casting search. The cast for “Girl Meets World” will also include Maya, Riley’s edgy best friend. No word yet on any other faces that we’re hoping make a return appearance to John Adams High.
Fishel posted a thank you to fans of the original series on her Tumblr page with a sweet message, saying, “First of all, let me say that you, the fans of Boy Meets World, have been awesome.
That word is often used incorrectly by people, including myself, on a daily basis but you have truly been awe inspiring. You, yes, even You, are the reason that Girl Meets World Will be made.”
