Following the enormous success of ‘Magic Mike’ this summer, it’s no wonder the Alabama-born actor is taking home this year’s title of Sexiest Man Alive 2012.
However, according to People Magazine, the Hollywood actor was still modest when he heard the news.
“My first thought was, ‘Y’all are messing with me,'” says the celebrity. “I told Jenna after we’d been in the bathtub washing our dogs because they’d gotten skunked.”
He continues: “She was like, ‘What?’ Yeah, she calls me [the Sexiest Man Alive] now,” he adds, laughing.
Once she got past the initial shock, however, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, 31, told the publication she couldn’t agree more with their choice.
“People know him to be fun and sexy, but they don’t know how emotionally deep and spiritually open he is,” she said of her husband. “He is such an open-hearted person; what you see is what you get.”
Not that the ‘Step Up’ actor, who is set to star as an Olympic athlete in upcoming film ‘Foxcatcher,’ isn’t aware of his appeal as a hunky leading man on-screen, The New York Daily News writes.
“I like to be lean. If I get too bulky I can’t move well and I like to move,” he said of how he keeps his toned body in shape. “When I’m not training, I get really round and soft.”
Tatum who is also sculpts quotes Edgar Allen Poe and loves to give his wife massages. He also goes public about his desire to start his own clan of good-looking children.
“I’m ready; I think she’s ready,” Tatum said of taking the next step. “The first number that pops into my head is three, but I just want one to be healthy and then we’ll see where we go after that.
“It’s really easy for us guys to say, ‘I want like 15 kids.’ Jenna will be like, ‘Well you better get another wife!’”
After being titled as Sexiest Man 2012, Channing Tatum was immediately congratulated by his co-stars via social networking sites.
“@channingtatum you’ve always been the sexiest man alive to me! (Congrats pal!),” tweeted Tatum’s ‘21 Jump Street’ costar Jonah Hill, posting a photo of himself licking the People magazine cover.
“Tell us something we don’t know!! Congrats Chan!! @channingtatum #SexiestManAlive,”Haylie Duff wrote.
‘What I Like About You’ star Nick Zano said, “Congratulations to the genetics of @kaytatum & Glen for creating the ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ @channingtatum.”
And of course, Channing’s wife Jenna Dewan-Tatum also chimed in on her hubby’s new title: “Well obviously I agree! Good job @peoplemag! Congrats to my humble, loving, talented and yes- SEXY- love @channingtatum!!”
By the way, Tatum had been heavily rumored to be this year’s hottest man last week. The list of his rivals included Blake Shelton, Ben Affleck, Chris Hemsworth, ‘New Girl’ star Max Greenfield and Tatum’s ‘Magic Mike’ co-star Matt Bomer, among others.
The new title is not the only one the actor earned in recent time. GQ announced Tatum is Movie Star of the Year.
“They were like: ‘Grind it. If you love it, grind it.’ I did. And a lot of people who didn’t grind it, it’s not that they’re not in a good place, but I’m in a better place,” the ‘Magic Mike’ actor told the publication of the advice he received from seasoned vets in Hollywood.
