After only a few months of dating, the celebrity couple have officially ended their short romance, the NFL star’s rep confirmed to Us Weekly today.
“Mark adores and respects Eva,” Sanchez’s rep said. “It really was about scheduling more than anything else. They will remain close friends.”
The 25-year-old quarterback told his close friends that he and the former “Desperate Housewives” star, 37, decided end their relationships before Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots.
“Mark says he is really upset about the breakup with Eva. He is telling friends he tried everything he could to make her happy, and to make things work between them, but they live in very different worlds,” an insider told reporters.
He went on, adding, “The problem was Mark is very focused on football, while Eva is a busy businesswoman. She lives in Los Angeles, is doing a lot of philanthropic and political work, and is developing a number of TV shows, including the NBC dating series ‘Ready for Love.'”
According to The New York Daily News, another source suggested that’s all the couple ever really seemed to be in the first place, despite their high-profile romance of three months, saying: “They just seem like buddies.”
One more theory claims that the couple’s schedules have gotten in the way of anything long-term. The source confirmed the couple “were never really together.”
There’s one more version which insists that “the age difference” is to blame — the 37-year-old divorced actress, formerly married to basketball player Tony Parker, is 12 years older than Gang Green’s quarterback.
They also moved in different circles. “She’s more ‘Hollywood’ than he is,” says the second insider. “Her people are always around, and (Mark) didn’t like that.”
The two had linked together since this summer, and were first spotted in June, at a party in the West Village. The beauty was seen hanging with Sanchez at an outdoor lunch near his home in Bedminster, NJ, in early September, Fox News reports.
Last month saw Longoria’s comment on her and her then-boyfriend’s relationships: “We’re happy just dating,” she revealed.
In a couple of interviews she also confirmed the romance with NFL star, but remained insistent that things weren’t serious.
“It really was about scheduling more than anything else. They will remain close friends,” Mark’s spokesman commented yesterday.
Sanchez, in his turn, has been mum on his relationship status thus far but one thing is for certain, he is a total mama’s boy.
“Family is big. My mom has to love her. I mean, love her. Somebody who can handle all this. . . because I’m still learning,” he told GQ in last fall.
The actress has been keeping herself busy lately as she is involved in Obama’s reelection campaign. She even delivered a speech at the Democratic National Convention earlier this fall.
Moreover, the 37-year-ols recently starred in a political ad alongside Scarlet Johansson and Kerry Washington urging women to vote for the president instead of his Republican rival Mitt Romney.
As for her now-ex-boyfriend, Sanchez is in the middle of NFL season, most recently taking a 29-26 loss against the New England Patriots. Sanchez fumbled on the last play of the overtime game, ABC News writes.
