Russell Crowe and Danielle Spencer Split After 9 Years of Marriage

Hollywood star Russell Crowe and his wife of nine years, Danielle Spencer, have split up, with speculation that the Oscar-winning actor could face a US$25 million settlement.

Russell Crowe and his wife, Danielle Spencer, have reportedly parted ways. The news is shocking because the couple were believed to have had a solid marriage. It is known that the pair first met 22 years ago on the set of the film “The Crossing”.

But they broke up and Crowe went overseas to find work where he had a well-publicised affair with US actress Meg Ryan. Later Crowe realised that Spencer was the woman he needed in his life.

Crow was born in New Zealand. He won an Oscar for his role in “Gladiator”. The actor has lived in Australia since he was a small child.

Crowe is said to have earned about US$150 million making films in the years since he married Spencer. So she could conservatively walk away with a settlement of at least US$25 million,  according to the People Magazine.

As well as being a Hollywood heavy-hitter, Crowe, who last year spent US$10 million on a Sydney house to live in with Spencer, part-owns an Australian rugby league team.

Also he  has a luxury apartment in the city and a valuable 320-hectare rural property near Coffs Harbour, in New South Wales state.

The couple lived a happy life. They loved each other and could not imagine their lives  without each other. Spencer is said to have calmed her husband’s wild ways and softened his temper. She once said of her husband’s fame and fortune that “all that stuff has nothing to do with me as a person”.

But as it became known, they decided to devote. There are several points of view about the reasons. The first one(the most popular) is that in June, Spencer was photographed out at a Sydney casino lounge with Damian Whitewood, her pro dance partner on season 12 of Australia’s Dancing with the Stars.

Photos in Australian media showed the two with their arms around each other. However, days after the cozy pictures of Spencer and Whitewood surfaced, a photo of Crowe affectionally greeting Spencer at the Los Angeles International Airport seemed to hush interest.

The other point of view is that the demands of Crowe’s acting career is a factor in the split, with the star away for much of the past year filming “Man with the Iron Fist”, “Les Miserables”, “Broken City”, “Man of Steel” and “Noah”.

By the way,  the divorce  was amicable. And  the couple’s main concern is protecting their two sons Charles, 8 and Tennyson, 6, from the public eye.

A reported prenuptial agreement could guarantee Spencer a minimum payout of about $15 million because the couple stayed together for at least three years. There is also  a $3 million trust fund for each child.

It’s thought Spencer will remain at the Rose Bay property with the children. And  Crowe will reside at the couple’s $14 million Woolloomooloo apartment which is close to the gym the actor owns.

Spencer is now in Sydney with their children – sons Charles and Tennyson while Crowe stays in N.Y.C., where he took the stage at the Gramercy Theatre Saturday night with Alan Doyle, Sting and Les Misérables costar Samantha Barks.
