With the new SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive is a car of a brand new era: the locally emission-free super car including technology from the world of Formula 1 is the most exclusive and dynamic way in which to drive an electric car.
The vehicle, which is said to be the most powerful electric car in the world, features four electric motors producing a total output of 740hp (552 kW) and a maximum torque of 1000 Nm.
“Coupled on an axially-arranged transmission design and fed by a lithium-ion battery pack, these motors essentially make the SLS Electric Drive an all-wheel drive vehicle with an on-board management system capable of apportioning variable drive to each wheel in accordance with prevailing driving conditions,” explains Mashable.
“They also make the SLS Electric drive 132 kW and 351 N.m more powerful than the V8-engined SLS AMG, which goes some way to explain the EV’s 3,9-second 0-100 km/h sprint time. Having said that, the top speed is limited to 249 km/h.”
Thus, the highly anticipated model can easily correspond to the title, suggested by its maker: the SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive accelerates from zero to 62 mph in 3.9 seconds.
It’s so fast, its top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph — and in a statistical anomaly, it has a maximum battery range of 155 miles as well. So, the car can be driven at full speed for one hour until it’s time to recharge.
However, it should be noted that the battery charges for 20 hours. There is an additional wall box, which provides a 22kW quick charge function, filling the stores in three hours.
“The battery also gets a top-up when you’re braking and coasting, and in the SLS you can choose how much is recuperated,” writes Top Gear.
As for the batteries, the car producer made its new vehicle out of aluminium and carbonfibre and fitted a set of 402mm/360mm carbon ceramic brakes. It’s still unclear whether the the SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive is lighter or heavier than standard.
“Couple this awesome vehicle’s 700 hp with the spectacular torque of electric vehicles, and you get performance that is well into the scary zone,” Mashable says.
And if you’re missing the sweet music of a Mercedes V8 screaming at full tilt, the company has oversee that as well.
It’s necessary just to press the “power” button and the sound of a Mercedes engine blasts out of the car’s 11 interior speakers, matching sounds with whatever you’re doing with the throttle.
“The SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive is setting new standards for cars with electric drives. As the most powerful gullwing model ever, it is also representative of the enduring innovational strength of Mercedes-AMG,” said Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.
“Our vision of the most dynamic electric vehicle has become a reality. With the help of our colleagues at Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains in Brixworth, we are bringing exciting advanced technology from the world of Formula 1 to the road.”
