Man Apologizes to Cat By Building Him a Cardboard Palace [Video]

In a video a man builds a massive, floor-to-ceiling palace out of 40 cardboard boxes to cheer up his cat.

Well, as we know, usual cat-videos can be divided into several categories: cats cutely doing something human, like playing the piano; or cats cutely being somewhere they shouldn’t be, like on top of a Roomba.

However, “Rufus Tower” does differ from all the videos featuring cats as it shows a cat feeling sad, and his owner trying to cheer him up – by building him a large and complex tower of cardboard boxes to play in.

The adorable video, starring Billy Browne and his best friend, a cute tabby Rufus, is up to a half million YouTube page views as of this writing. It kicks off with an explanation from Browne about what led to this architectural marvel, Yahoo! News reports.

As The Huffington Post explains, orange cat Rufus had earlier suffered a bad ear infection, which can be treated only by the administering of very painful ear drops.

Upon completion of the aggravating regimen, his owner Billy decided that he ought to do something to win back the affection of the disgruntled feline, who had taken to hiding whenever his owner returned home.

“I wanted to make it up to him,” Browne explains in the clip. Rufus, he says, enjoys playing in boxes, and so Browne embarked on a mission to construct the best possible playground for the sad cat.

The video shows the tower as Billy builds it, and the sped-up footage is starring a wary Rufus “supervising” while a somewhat mournful indie-rock tune plays.

By the way, the video has attracted much attention on YouTube and has already watched 176,393 times. Well, it’s not surprising at all, as everybody knows that if there’s one thing the Internet loves, it’s cat videos.

“I appreciate your. Your cat must so happy,” writes MrBlackfire01. “I think he likes it,” believes loshdog06.

There are even those who tried to ask Browne for a piece of advice, intending to provide their pets with a similar palace: “My kitties would love something like this! How do you keep the whole thing from falling over-did you attach it to the wall? :)”

Browne’s video comes two weeks after the Internet was swarming with reports of an amazing  ‘two-faced’ cat Venus.

The pet is quite unusual as his face is perfectly divided between black and calico. Besides, the new Internet star has heterochromia, which means that her eyes are different colors – in this case one is ice blue, the other is green.

“This little split face cat looked like a combo of the 2 cats I currently had (and still have),” says Venus’s owner on the cat’s Facebook page.

“As tiny as she is she likes to pick the giant pieces of food from the dog food bowl rather than eat her cat food and when the dogs come up she looks at them like ‘um yeah don’t even think about it.’ She’s the smallest animal of 5 but rules roost & doesn’t take any crap from the other animals.”

The cat, who is known as a chimera because of her genetic composition, was first seen in the Internet this month when someone posted a photo to social news website Reddit.
