Recent reports claim that the smaller version of the Apple’s tablet iPad is scheduled to debut in October, a month after the Cupertino based tech giant presents to the public its next-generation smartphone.
All Things Digital cited its several sources, claiming that the new iPhone will be unveiled “at an as yet unannounced event on September 12.”
“Only after the next-generation iPhone is out the door and on sale will Apple announce the smaller iPad it’s been working on,” the site writes.
Some analysts have already predicted that the Californian company would likely separate two device announcements, as both are likely to be blockbuster events.
Daring Fireball’s John Gruber recently claimed that speculations and reports considering the announcement of Apple’s upcoming products at a single event were off-base.
According to him, “the iPhone is Apple’s marquee device and the marketing savvy company would never unveil it alongside a second product that might dilute the attention it will certainly command”.
“I don’t think Apple would want reviews of both a new iPhone and new-size iPad appearing at the same time,” Gruber wrote.
“Why share the spotlight? Why have another Apple product battling with the iPhone for the top spots in news coverage?” he wondered.
“The more I think about it, the less sense it makes for the iPhone to even share the stage at the announcement with any other product. The iPhone is too big, too cool, and garners too much attention — and it’s in Apple’s interest to keep that attention undiluted.”
The news came a few days after it was reported that Apple plans to introduce its highly anticipated smartphone release date was confirmed by Verizon vacation blackout.
A Verizon employee, who wished to remain anonymous, revealed the company is restricting all staff from taking vacation days between Friday, September 21 and Friday, September 30.
According to TechCrunch, the vacation blackout clearly indicates that the sixth generation iPhone would “almost certainly be available in stores” on the first day of the blackout.
The upcoming Apple’s product, reportedly with Long Term Evolution, will allow Verizon Wireless to generate more revenue from customers who agree to pay more for faster LTE network.
This week also saw reports that a US court has ordered Samsung to pay the Cupertino tech giant $1.05bn for infringing intellectual property.
The court also upheld the validity of a series of Apple patents, many of which related to the design of the iPhone.
“We are grateful to the jury for their service and for investing the time to listen to our story and we were thrilled to be able to finally tell it,” said Apple spokesperson Katie Cotton in a prepared statement.
“The mountain of evidence presented during the trial showed that Samsung’s copying went far deeper than even we knew. The lawsuitsbetween Apple and Samsung were about much more than patents or money. They were about values.”
Samsung, is understandably not satisfied with the verdict, calling it “a loss for the American consumer.”
“It will lead to fewer choices, less innovation, and potentially higher prices,” said Samsung in a statement.
“It is unfortunate that patent law can be manipulated to give one company a monopoly over rectangles with rounded corners, or technology that is being improved every day by Samsung and other companies.”
The South Korean company filed a counter-suit, claiming that Apple infringed five of its own patents. Lawyers for Samsung argued its rival was trying “to thwart legitimate competition”.
