The actress – who made her name by playing Carmen Cortez in the Spy Kids movie franchise – has recently ended her two year marriage with her much older partner Sean Covel, TMZ reports.
It seems like the now-former couple – who were married on October 10, 2010 in South Dakota – waited a few months before officially deciding to go their separate ways for good.
As The Huffington Post writes, soon-to-be-ex spouses were engaged for a year before they married. “Spy Kids” director Robert Rodriguez walked Vega, then 22, down the aisle.
Alexa revealed her attitude towards the marriage to MSN in 2011, just before their one-year anniversary.
“I can’t believe it’s already almost been a year. It’s been great. This is the first time that he and I have been working at the same time,” Vega said at the time.
She continued: “We’re learning how to balance both of us working at the same time and still spend time together as much as possible.”
“That part is hard, but you make it work. You fight for it, and that’s what makes it work. More than anything, we’ve just been total dorks vegging out on the couch and just enjoying each other’s company. I love that. It’s my favorite thing.”
Vega also shared her plans to celebrate the anniversary: “We have blocked off about a week during the week of Oct. 10. We still haven’t taken a honeymoon, so it might be a one-year anniversary and honeymoon that we’re going take.”
However, the situation has changed. An insider told reporters: “Alexa and Sean are no longer living together. They got married young, and things just weren’t working out between them. Alexa has moved back into her family’s home in Hollywood.”
The Spy Kids actress revealed that March 5 was the day she called time on her relationship with the film producer in the official paperwork.
Vega provoked rumors about possible troubles in her family life after she took to Twitter last week, writing: “Assumptions are the termites of relationships.”
The insider revealed that Vega is doing “well” in the wake of the separation and is trying to focus on work.
“I think it’d be so awesome to do an action-drama for a girl. When I saw the trailer for Zoe Saldana’s movie “Colombiana,” I freaked out. That’s the kind of stuff that I would really love to be involved with,” she said a year ago.
“More than anything, I love keeping people guessing. I don’t want people to think I’m going to do the same character over and over again.”
“I like to keep people interested like the people I look up to, Johnny Depp and Meryl Streep. I mean, you never know what kind of character they’re going to play next,” Alexa added.
The actress seemed more than happy while she attended an event at the Belasco Theater in Dowtown Los Angeles on Tuesday, claims The Daily Mail.
“She was flirty and in high spirits at the bash in conjunction with the ESPYS 20th annual celebration, shimmying across the photo area at one point and flicking her highlighted hair,” the tabloid writes.
“Any signs of heartbreak would have been largely out-shined by her toned and tanned legs, which she showed off in beige high heels.”
