The “Modern Family” star said “yes” to on-and-off-again boyfriend Nick Loeb while vacationing at the posh Rosewood Mayakoba resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico, for Vergara’s birthday, reports The Huff Post.
Loeb reportedly popped the question during a visit to Chichen Itza, some Mayan ruins near the Rosewood Mayakoba resort where Vergara and her 90 close family and friends are staying.
The pair then celebrated their engagement news with her sitcom cast mates Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Julie Bowen and Sarah Hyland, who were also in Mexico for the occasion.
Hyland alluded to the news via her Twitter page yesterday and called Vergara “the most wonderful, generous, beautiful woman in the world.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Vergara met the politically active businesman (who considered a 2010 run for Florida’s state senate) in 2010 at a Golden Globes party and they’ve been on-and-off dating ever since.
Loeb is the son of John Loeb Jr., who served President Reagan as ambassador to Denmark.
Their bond strengthened following a serious car wreck that saw Sofia nurse Nick back to health. In May frequent arguments had them on the verge of a break-up, reports Los Angeles Times.
The actress and Loeb rekindled their relationship at the beginning of June, though a source told PEOPLE, “There are compromises to work out on both sides.”
“They have a crazy relationship,” a source told Us Weekly. “They break up and make up. They fight and make up hard!”
A sorse told New York Post: ”Nick had been shopping for rings before they left for Mexico.”
A rep for Loeb had no comment, Vergara’s rep didn’t immediately return request for comment.
This would be the actress’ second marriage. At 18, Vergara married her high school sweetheart, Joe Gonzalez, but divorced less than three years later. The couple has a now 20-year-old son together, Manolo.
Vergara is the star of ABC’s “Modern Family”and also has an eponymous clothing line sold at K-Mart.
