Consumers Crave Apple’s iPhone More Than Sex, New Study Suggests

Most iPhone owners confessed they can’t imagine their lives without the gadget, and quite a few would sooner give up sex, says a new survey.

Which would you rather give up for a weekend – sex or your iPhone? 15 percent of respondents to one study said they would choose a romance-free weekend rather than go without their beloved device.

Gazelle, the company that buys your old iPhone, learned that 65 percent of respondents named iPhone as the device they would not be able to live without, compared with just 1 percent opting for Facebook.

Moreover, nearly 15 percent of interviewees said they’d rather give up sex than go for even a weekend without their iPhone.

4 percent revealed that have used their Apple phones during sex. Keep that up and you won’t have to choose between sex and the iPhone for long.

This study is not the first one which has provided such shocking results. Previously smartphone users admitted they would give up sex over their smartphone.

According to The Sidney Morning Herald, in a similar survey conducted by another company, smartphones tied with intimate relationships as two things business professionals said they couldn’t live without.

More than 25 percent of respondents said they ‘”almost always” use their iPhone in a social setting such a meal or party, while 58 percent said they do so “usually” or “occasionally.”

Nearly 85 percent said they used their iPhones in the bathroom, writes SF Gate.

A spokesperson for Gazelle said the interviewers were quite surprised at how many people said they would choose their device over Facebook.

“When asked which device or platform they would not be able to live without, a majority (65 per cent) chose iPhone, while only a few (one per cent) report not being able to do without Facebook,” the press release for the survey states.

The survey also showed that about 40% of interviewed said that the most desirable feature they want to see in the next version of the device is a bigger screen.

Apple has remained non-committal about whether the next version will feature a larger screen, but if the decision was left in the hands of consumers, we’d all need a little extra room in our pockets and purses.

Nearly 70% of respondents revealed their saying goodbye to their iPods or other mp3 players since purchasing an iPhone. 55% have ditched their camera, and over 40% have gotten rid of their GPS unit since buying an iPhone.

“It’s amazing to think about how much the iPhone has changed consumers’ lives in just five short years,” said Anthony Scarsella, Gazelle’s chief gadget officer.

“As the nation’s leading high-end consumer electronics trade-in site, we know just how much people love their iPhones, and we’re happy to help them upgrade to the latest generation in the smartest way possible – by giving them cash for their current device.”

To celebrate iPhone’s birthday and the ways the device has changed people’s lives over the last five years, Gazelle invites iPhone users to visit its Facebook page and submit a “happy birthday wish” to iPhone.

By “liking” Gazelle and submitting a “happy birthday wish” through the page, consumers will be entered to win a chance to receive a $2,500 shopping spree to the Apple Store. Consumers will be able to submit till June 30.
