The Santa Monica Police Department is investigating whether or not the actress lied to police officers when questioned at the hospital.

According to TMZ, when Lindsay was in the hospital getting checked out after the accident, cops from the Santa Monica Police Dept. questioned her.

Lohan was driving a rented Porsche, with her assistant in the passenger seat, on the Pacific Coast Highway on June 8 when she rear-ended a truck, causing massive damage to the $80,000 vehicle.

However, the sources claim, Lindsay told police officers she was a passenger in the Porsche and her assistant was driving.  But it was discovered that her testimony doesn’t suit to the information her assistant gave as he told police Lindsay was behind the wheel.

Reports claim that Lindsay has told friends that the accident was down to a mechanical failure. Meanwhile the driver of the truck claimed that the accident was entirely her fault, Lindsay is said to have confessed to pals she couldn’t have avoided the crash.

An insider close to the actress told reporters: “Lindsay is sticking with the “truck cut me off!!!” story, but with a twist, she claims she slammed on the brakes, but nothing.”

He went on: “She came over and hit the back of the truck. Then the car pulled up on the sidewalk.”

Moreover, the source swears that he can prove it, with the help of eyewitnesses who were at the scene: “They have a video of this whole incident.”

The truck driver alleged that he was driving at the speed of 40 miles per hour along the Pacific Coast Highway when Lindsay hit him.

The man in question – who has been identified as James Johnson – said that he had been minding his own business when he felt the impact of Lindsay’s Porsche.

Johnson also revealed that Lohan’s aids tried to bribe him in order to keep quiet about the incident and offered him to “go to the bank” to withdraw cash in order to pay him off, but the man had already dialed 911.

Lohan’s rep denied the driver’s bribery allegations in a statement on Sunday: “It seems to me once he realized he wasn’t going to get anything from Lindsay he decided to get cash by telling tales to the tabloids.”

“I hope he got whatever money he was looking for. Personally, all I care about is that Lindsay and [her assistant] Gavin are okay.”

The police are reportedly writing up a report that will include Lindsay’s lie.  It’s a crime to provide false info to a police officer.  In addition, lying to police could trigger a probation violation in her shoplifting case, which means she faces the possibility of jail on 2 fronts, the magazine explains.

Lindsay could also face the risk of getting her probation revoked from her shoplifting case last year, and may go to jail if found guilty.

Lohan, who is trying to regain the popularity of a serious actress after a series of legal woes, rehab and jail stints, appeared ready to work on Monday, just three days after the accident, writes The Daily Mail.

She doesn’t appear too concerned about her situation as set to work on her Lifetime movie “Liz and Dick” looking cool, calm and collected.
