The couple announced their separation “after much heartfelt consideration” today.
In a well-thought out statement to People Magazine, the former couple explained: “Though we have made this incredibly difficult decision to separate, our love and mutual respect remain, and we look forward to sharing in the lives of our wonderful children.”
They have been broken up for a while, claims In Touch magazine. “They are still really close and remain the best of friends,” an insider told the magazine.
“They’ve been taking turns with their kids so they can both see them as much as possible. It has been really amicable, with no other parties involved, and Chris has been a total professional while filming The Bachelorette.”
A rep adds: “They happily remain committed and caring friends with great love and mutual admiration for each other.”
Celebuzz recently spoke with Patrick Wanis, PhD Human Behavior & Relationship Expert & Celebrity Life Coach, who revealed that reality TV couples are always at risk of a separation.
“It is never good to expose your entire life. What we’re finding is a lot of these couples aren’t married very long and barely know each other and now they’re exposing themselves to the world. It hasn’t given them enough time to solidify their relationship.”
“Reality shows intensify the best and worst of each person,” he added.
In February 2010, Bachelor contestant Rozlyn Papa accused show’s host of making a pass at a producer’s wife while taping the show in New Zealand.
“I won’t even dignify that with a response,” Harrison said during ‘The Bachelor: The Women Tell All special.’ “I had nothing to hide… my wife was there,” the TV star added.
Chris became the host of ABC’s romance reality show The Bachelor in 2001, reports The Daily Mail. He has since presented both spin-offs, The Bachelorette and Bachelor Pad.
He is set to return to screens later this month with a new season of The Bachelorette, which stars Brad Womack’s ex, Emily Maynard.
The 40-year-old Chris and Gwen have two sons – Joshua, 9, and Taylor, 7. Harrison has been with Gwen, his college sweetheart, since he was 18 years old.
Harrison will host the new season of “The Bachelorette,” which stars Emily Maynard, who accepted Brad Womack’s marriage proposal on season 15 of “The Bachelor.” Maynard and Womack split last summer.
According to On The Red Carpet, Maynard, 25, is to be the first single mother to appear on “The Bachelorette.” She is the mother of Josephine Riddick “Ricki” Hendrick, 6. Maynard was pregnant with her daughter when her fiancé and famed NASCAR driver Ricky Hendrick died in a plane crash in October 2004.
“It’s an absolute home run – she was such a viewer favorite and she’s so beloved and I just think she’ll be a fantastic ‘Bachelorette’ and she’s going to kind of push the envelope again for the show,” Harrison told WABC Television in January.
“She will make decisions for her and her daughter Ricki and the guys will have to approach this differently, so it’s going to be a very different show, which I love.”
The eighth season of “The Bachelorette,” which stars Emily Maynard is due to begin on May 14 on ABC.
