“Yes, it’s confirmed,” Pitt’s manager Cynthia Pett-Dante told PEOPLE. “It is a promise for the future and their kids are very happy. There’s no date set at this time.”
Jolie, 36, and Pitt, 48, have been together since 2005, and rumors that they planned to marry have been circulating for seven years.
The latest wave of rumors about the possible marriage appeared after Jolie was spotted this week wearing a large diamond ring on her engagement finger.
The Hollywood jeweller who designed Angelina’s ring, Robert Procop, revealed that Angie’s ring was designed in collaboration with Brad.
“Brad had a specific vision for this ring, which he realized over a yearlong collaboration. He wanted every aspect of it to be perfect, so I was able to locate a diamond of the finest quality and cut it to an exact custom size and shape to suite Angelina’s hand,” said Procop.
The designer added: “Brad was always heavily involved, overseeing every aspect of the creative design evolution. The side diamonds are specially cut to encircle her finger. Each diamond is of the highest gem quality.”
As for the reasons for such decision, in January Pitt said that the pair were coming under pressure from their three adopted and three biological children.
“It (marriage) seems to mean more and more to our kids. We made this declaration some time ago that we weren’t going to do it until everyone can. But I don’t think we’ll be able to hold out,” Pitt told that time.
“It means so much to my kids, and they ask a lot. And it means something to me, too, to make that kind of commitment… But to be in love with someone and be raising a family with someone and want to make that commitment and not be able to it is ludicrous, just ludicrous.”
“We’ve explained to them that our commitment when we decided to start a family was the greatest commitment you could possibly have,” Jolie explained in 2011. “Once you have six children, you’re…you’re committed.”
Well, it seems like the couple has finally come up with the right decision.
“We’d actually like to,” Pitt told The Hollywood Reporter about getting married, “and it seems to mean more and more to our kids. We made this declaration some time ago that we weren’t going to do it till everyone can. But I don’t think we’ll be able to hold out. It means so much to my kids, and they ask a lot. And it means something to me, too, to make that kind of commitment.”
The couple has six children together: Maddox, 10, Pax, 8, Zahara, 7, Shiloh, 5, and twins Knox and Viv, 3.
In a January 2012 interview Pitt revealed he told them he’d marry their mom. “We will someday. We will. That’s a great idea!,” he told them. ” ‘Get mommy a ring!’ ‘Okay, I will, I will.’ ”
Pitt was previously married to Jennifer Aniston, but they divorced in 2005 after five years of marriage. Jolie was married to Billy Bob Thornton, but they divorced soon in 2003. She also wed British actor Jonny Lee Miller before they split in 1999.
