The Texts from Hillary site, which was launched last week, has become hugely popular in American political circles. The blog has been posting photo memes depicting Clinton texting politicians and celebrities like a boss, writes CBS News.
The photos used in the meme was taken by Diana Walker for TIME and Reuters photographer Kevin Lamarque. Both pictures show Clinton checking her Blackberry in sunglasses on a military plane bound for Tripoli from Malta.
The meme includes images of public persons, like Facebook chief executive officer Mark Zuckerberg or politician Sarah Palin, exchanging text messages with the secretary of state.
One of them shows President Obama asking Clinton, “Hey Hil, Whatchu doing?”[sic] “Running the world,” the secretary of state responds. Another submission demonstrates Clinton rejecting a friend request from Zuckerberg.
Publicists Adam Smith and Stacy Lambe, two Washington-based communications advisers, went to the state department on Tuesday after Clinton’s staff contacted them to say she found the site hilarious.
“We thought it’d be a funny joke for the two of us. When we heard from Secretary Clinton’s staff yesterday, we were both shocked,” said Smith. “It was great, it was a lot of fun,” Lambe said. “You could tell that she had actually seen the site and had genuine appreciation for it and thought it was really funny.”
“She met with the two creators this afternoon at State, for about 10 minutes,” Clinton aide Philippe Reines confirmed.
“They kidded around, then they took a photo together. Rather than a boring shot, she suggested they each look down at their BlackBerries, and she even put on her sunglasses – that’s the photo they posted on their site,” he said.
“And yes, she inscribed a printout of her submission to their site, to each of them with a funny note,” Reines added.
According to BBC, the secretary of state met them personally and signed a copy of her own Texts from Hillary submission with “Thanks for the many LOLZ Hillary ‘Hillz’.”
“Adam, thanks for the many LOLZ Hillary Hill,” Clinton wrote next to a photo of herself wearing sunglasses and looking at a stack of documents inside a C-17 military cargo plane.
Lambe and Smith’s replies, featured over pictures of them texting, read sheepishly, “omg…busted” and “sry Hillz.” “ROFL @ ur tumblr!” Clinton responds. “g2g – scrunchie time. ttyl?”
“We never even thought it would go beyond us laughing about a funny photo we made one night after drinking,” Lambe said of the blog, adding the outreach from Clinton’s office “was beyond any expectations.”
The publicist also revealed that “her staff is a delight and that everybody was really nice and really excited about what’s happened over the past few days”.
He kept on talking: “Of course, Hillary Clinton thought it was hilarious and had a good laugh and was very nice and welcome – and very generous to take a few minutes of her time to take some photos with us.”
As far as buzz that Clinton may run for President in 2016, which some credit their Tumblr with starting, Lambe stayed diplomatic.
“I think it’s awesome,” Lambe said. “Whatever she decides to do come 2016, we’ll be excited either way.”
